love that the 10/22 is so customizable, what are some good modifications to stat with. and id love to see pictures of your rifle! mine is pretty stock currently

i only have 2 mods on my 10/22, the auto bolt release and the bx trigger. I want to next replace the stock with a tactical chassis. Do you guys know given the recent ban on anything AR-15 or AR-15 styled, are the conversion kits that turn the Ruger into something more AR styled still legal in Canada?

Yes, still legal.

My "go to" started life as a second hand "deluxe" model - I've replaced the barrel with a fluted BC heavy barrel, turned a tube to slip on the end of the barrel to make sure the sound goes forward and not back - it's not a silencer - no baffles. In NZ the muzzle was drilled, crowned, and threaded for a screw-in adapter to take a silencer, but that all had to be sold before returning to Canada. The trigger is a Clark Custom trigger set, steel buffer removed for a nylon buffer, bolt release modified, and a hole bored in the back of the receiver to enable cleaning from the breech with a rod, without taking the barrel off. The stock was hogged out and the back three inches of the barrel are bedded in Devcon epoxy-steel. Most recent mod was to adapt the receiver to take the "tuff-22" magazine. The mag fits well and feeds if the cartridges are fed into the mag one-at-a-time but it's petty finicky if you use their slide-in clips..

Oh, yeah... forgot. Bad Bob reminded me. Ti extractor ...
Cheers

Three major things: 1) Replace crappy trigger 2) Replace crappy extractor with a Volquartson 3) Replace steel buffer with a nylon one.

Basic standard 10/22 has one screw holding action into the stock. As per Internet ideas, start applying layers of aluminum foil tape on each side of rear of receiver until it is tight slip fit to seat the receiver into the stock - this eliminates the rear of the action slopping side to side when fired - I think mine took 13 layers - 6 on one side, 7 on the other. Then, put wraps of electric tape around barrel to get it a tight fit into barrel channel at front of the stock. Remove that carbine barrel band, and clearance the underside so it does not touch the barrel. For $2 or $3 in tape, I got a very accurate, fun little .22 that shoots better than I can with a set of aperture sights installed. You can then go ahead and spend thousands (?) more to dress it up to look whatever you think is important.

Why is that? I don’t think handguards, stocks and grips are prohibited, are they?

just kidding but perhaps not

inside documents reveal the liberals want to ban miitary looking guns and the 10/22 is on the list, one of the conservative mo’s has seen a new list and it is not good for lots of popular rifles, rimfire included and some f class

Sounds awesome.

All I ever do is swap out the hammer for a VQ one and often get a different set of sites. I dont like the stock ones. Although I have been finding lately and I have a few 1022s that the current triggers don’t seem nearly as rough as the old ones. There may be some weight to them but are rather crisp.

If you're looking at competitions like CRPS/ORPS then pay some attention to whether you want to stay in Production or go all-out in Open. No sense going only a little bit over that line!

Carry on as you were if that's not your game.
