I hope this is the right place for this.
Anyways, I already have an WTB ad in the EE, so I’m in the market for an AIA No.4 Mk4. I have a few questions to current or former owners.

1. How’s the accuracy and functionality of the rifle? Will it do 500 meter target shooting?
2. Do they all come with scope mounts?
3. What scope are most of you guys running?
4. What load have you reloaders found that works well?
5. Do they have chrome lined barrels or not?

I have done a bunch of reading on the internet and some say they are the best... and others say they are cheaply made and not worth it. So I’d like to hear some first hand experiences from owners/former owners.

Sub MOA with varget and Speer 150s. Never shot it past 300m though.
They came with a soft case, front sight tool, pit rail and two magazines. IIRC, some came with cheek risers, mine didn’t. Most of the rifles seem to have lost their accessories over the years.
I ran a sightron 10x because the eye box fit the chin weld.
The bedding on these was very different from rifle to rifle. My M10A was as good as any military enfield, the No4, not so much. I had to shim to get the action square in the stock. Fit and finish was ok, the edges are very sharp, not much chamfering going on.
My M10A did not. Ask me how I know :/

They were like a lot of military rifles I’ve owned, fun at the time but I don’t miss them. And for the price (last No 4 with all the goodies I saw went for $1900) there are much better options. For that kind of scratch, you’re getting into the land of minty Irish contract and Longbranch rifles.

Thanks guys for all the info, I think I still want to try one of the No.4 AIA rifles even if it has a few shortcomings. It might be fun and would round off my enfield collection.
 
I've had both the full wood and the target versions. Nice shooters, accurate, come with scope mount, don't recall if the barrel is chrome lined, and they are freaking heavy!
 
Well I found one and it’s on it’s way to me as we speak! I recon I’ll find out for myself how good these can shoot LoL
The only thing is that it doesn’t come with a scope rail (lost years ago in a house move). Does anyone know where to source a scope rail for one of these beauties?

The rails came with the guns... if it is missing that might be difficult to find.
 
You might want to prepare yourself for a bit of fussing if you want to keep the rear aperture sight installed with a scope mounted. The one I have works fine with a 4-12 Bushnell scope - eye relief is just so to allow that aperture to have clearance of the power change ring. That is, if keeping the scope as low as possible is an objective of yours.

Awesome! What scope are you running exactly? Bushnell trophy, or 3200 series? 1” or 30mm tube? If I could get the exact model of scope you have then I won’t run into trouble.
Also I want to reload for this rifle but I can’t find the barrel twist rate anywhere. Someone earlier mentioned Speer 150’s and Varget but no charge weight was given. I’ve got five boxes of hornady’s 168 grain ELD’s and was hoping to use those. If anyone knows the twist rate of the No.4 Mk4 please let me know!

That was me ;) 150s and Varget is my standard 308 plinking go-to mostly because I’ve never had any trouble sourcing bullets or powder in bulk. I was reloading out of the Speer manual at the time and started a grain above the minimum load and worked my way up until I got to a group size I liked for plinking at steel plates <300m. I could dig out the exact charge weight but your rifle isn’t mine (unless you bought it from Trent M) and you’re going to want something in a heavier bullet weight anyway.

If the Hornadys don’t work, the Federal Gold Medal Match might. I’ve never had stellar results with either, but it’s a place to start.

Right on! Now I have a place to start, I’ve got an 8 pound jug of Varget and I just dug up 2 boxes of speer 150 grain soft points. Time to start loading!
