Turning an 870 Police into a hunting, sporting shotgun?

Finish should be as close as it gets without it being the one it came with from the factory, once you use and oil it a few times I bet there won’t be much difference.

Seeing as they’re off new production 870’s that they turn into Dlask shortys they’re most likely standard magnum barrels, so good for 2 3/4” and 3” guns.
 
I can’t seem to attach any images, if you send me email and I will send images of it.

i think they are taken on 870 express models they are not blued like the wing master barrel I took off.

But the barrel is stamped 12 g 2 3/4 and 3” 3 1/2 only with super mag receiver. My 870 is 3 mag receiver and barrel works fine.

This barrel does not have a detent ball on it so I use a wave washer to keep tight

My advice is to put your wallet back into your pocket.

Your 'old 870 Police' is almost certainly worth more just as it is. Every change you make will cost both money and resale value. Unless and until you are certain that a particular change is going to meet your needs, instead of starting down an endless path (of modification), I suggest that you keep it just as it is. While you may be able to spend money to improve it's functionality (for your particular application), any money you spend on your 'old 870 Police' will never be recovered, and - in the end - it's likely to end up costing you more than would your just buying that more-specialized shotgun.

P.S.: Unfortunately, I speak from experience. :redface:

I second this. I would just save for a new gun personally as it will cost you less in the long run and then you don't have to butcher that very nice 870P Max.
 
Most people have been trying to convert their regular 870s into a Police version, this is the first time I've encountered someone going the other way.

I’m not a 100% sure but if they’re anything like my newer 870 barrels they won’t have the ball detent.

Where did you get a big enough wave washer to fit an 870 mag tube? I’ve been looking for one for a while and haven’t found any.

The newer express barrel finishes are a bead blasted matte blued, at least all of mine are.

I ordered 5 so I never run out.
