tiny takedown or back-packable .22?

hi folks,
can anyone recommend a sub-$300 .22 that will handle subsonic and CB ammo, that is small enough to be packed or can be broken down to fit into a pack, and has some form of sights?

ie: a backpacker model or something like a break action single shot that breaks down in the traditional break action way by removal of the barrel.

It doesn't break down, but the .22 that is always on my backpack is a Henry carbine (16" barrel). It's compact, light, accurate, extremely reliable and holds a dozen rounds of .22LR in its tube mag. And it comes in right around the $300 mark at most dealers. I think I paid $275 for mine at Russell Sports.

And the nice thing about a lever gun over a semi is that it will feed any ammo without any hiccups at all. Anything from CB longs, right up to hyper-velocity rounds.

If you don't like the large loop, the Youth Model is the same gun with a standard lever loop and a slightly shorter butt stock.

manbearpig, if ya get that, get the large loop model. you can do a saddle spin with it (if you don't know what I mean, check out Terminator 2)

I have a very short Cooey ACE ,it must have a 14in or 16 in barrel, that comes out of the stock with turn of one screw, that fits onto a "DAY OF THE JACKEL" style skeleton stock, that disassembles and all fits into a fishing tube about 20 in. long. I wish I could post pictures

The AR-7, Marlin Papoose, the Chipmunk, the Savage youth .22s all come to mind as small light rifles. The elderly Stevens Favorite and similar rifles would also qualify. A Cooey Ace is about as small and light a takedown .22 as you will find. A Browning .22 auto is very compact when taken down, and there are various classic .22 slide action takedowns.

I picked up a pair of Marlin 915Y's for the boys last xmas. When they "out grow" them, I'll be using them! Freak'n handy lil guns and very accurate. I favor the stainless model, the sights are MUCH better (fiber optic). They are a blast with 22 shorts.

If you check around, Winchester made the sweetest pump 22 that came as a takedown model. The original backpacker. The Survival looks interesting too and thinking of getting one. SIR had them on for about $197 and come black, silver and camo. The old lady is drooling over that one. Think I remember something about it being a floater too.

For beginner perhaps will take about 50 seconds, when you get good at it
perhaps about 15 - 20 seconds .....

It's a bit picky on bullets but cci minimag 40 gr. no problem at all ....

Nope ...it's a rim-fire rifle.

The barrel length is 419mm/16.5in (the same as the factory barrel) and - when assembled - the overall length is 762mm/30in with the buttstock collapsed.

No ATT required.
