I have a 1955 Marlin 39A lever action .22 that the firing pin has broken. From on-line reading, it is not the first one to do that, nor will it be the last! Not having much luck sourcing a replacement in Canada - a Canadian vendor has them listed on their website, but after ordering one, I received an email that they are out of stock.
So, in the spirit of "old-school" gunsmithing, what are my choices? See picture below. Could this be brass brazed back together? Welded? If I were to attempt to file out a replacement from flat material, what material would be used? Is it to be hardened? Or is part of it hardened?
