Hello,

I am interested in a repro flintlock pistol, just something fun to bring to the range. I have started to enjoy shooting my flintlock musket and think a pistol would be a great addition. Was originally thinking just a Traditions Kentucky, so I went to there website and looked for dealers. Called a handful of them and they all said they cant get any pistols in as there suppliers do not get them and they dont order direct so they could not help me..

Can somebody point me in the right direction of retailers?

Only one I could really find would be the Pedersoli's from Marstar which are pretty much all out of stock and a little pricey for my liking.

Some from Loyalist Arms caught my eye... do you know if they have the touchhole drilled and are ready to go or are they like MilitaryHeritage that sells everything in a non firing state.

Thank you for your help

If manufactured pre 1898, no. If manufactured after 1898 yes. Makes sense doesn't it?

sad really they're basically art, I would love one but am not interested in paying the left nut for an actual antique version and alas I chose not to go restricted, however am now reconsidering it for before my renewal date.

Almost as bad as UK.

Here you can buy a genuine antique flintlock, but to shoot it you have to have it registered on your 'UK PAL' - the FAC.

ANY live-firing replica, even something like a medieval hande-gonne, has to be registered on your FAC. OTOH, you CAN make one, but as soon as you drill a touch-hole in it, it has to be registered.

Or else.

Most of the flintlock pistols you buy now will require the flash hole drilled (to make them a firearm), and many companies will warn that they have not been pressure-tested, and should be inspected by a gunsmith (for what it's worth). I hope to get off my a$$ and buy one someday (or a duelling set), since it's no longer illegal to challenge someone to a duel :)

Pedersoli is probably going to be the best quality for the buck, other than a hand made custom pistol.

I've been told by importers that the issues with Pedersoli is that they don't like buying them when the Euro is comparatively strong to the CDN - else they get spanked pretty hard on exchange.

Never ordered from loyalist, can't comment.

Another thing worth considering is that a modern replica flintlock pistol is a restricted firearm and so may fall under any future prohibitions or municipal restrictions ~ if that sort of thing goes forward. :(

Anyone know where Loyalists rifles are made? And whether they are safe shooters? Looking to get some more BP guns in the safe and the price tags on them are appealing.

India.

"Assembled exclusively for Loyalist Arms by our factory overseas, and we do all the finish work here in Canada."

I have a Brown Bess musket, the fit and finish are not great, but for $700ish, it is what it is.

I had issues with the lock - frizzen not being properly hardened, needed some work.

My next BP musket will be from Loyalist.

I have one of Military Hertitage's made in India 1795 Springfield Musket and it's not terrible. I had to drill the touch hole myself which I did not enjoy. For an extra $80 I can just buy a gun from Loyalist all ready to shoot.

I'm on a bunch of other pages, and forums, and it always seems that when the Indian made flintlocks are mentioned, lots of people have had issues with them. Many have issues with the springs in the locks, or the frizzens being too soft to spark well. Other issues are terrible trigger pulls, and way too much wood left on the stocks. Some weigh 3 lbs more than they should. Just my 2 cents

I would look for real antiques. Joe Salter.ca, and other places sell nice ones in the 1200-2000$ range. They do require inspection, often have wood cracks, but they work and are not restricted.
