Just wondering if any one out there knows much about the Anschutz model 1574 . It's a .308 and a friend is selling it, just wondering if they are any good. I know they make great .22's but this is the first larger caliber rifle I have seen from them. He thinks its from the 70's. Any idea what it should be selling for?

They are actually made by Voere for Anschutz. The one I have, shoots extremely well. It prefers Nato spec ammo for some reason, so when I reload, it's always with Nato spec brass. The actions are smooth as butter and the finish on both the wood and metal on mine is of superior quality. The last two that I've seen for sale went in the 1200 - 1500 range and had looked to have been well hunted as the finishes on both were only around 75%, that being said the quality of finsh had obviously been excellent when new. bearhunter

Thanks for the info, but I have one more question. I know that there is a long standing debate between 7.62 nato and .308 win. but is it perfectly safe to interchange in this gun?

mcoywg,
Grab it! If it shoots anything like mine you will love it. Light, super smooth and it shoots like it has eyes. Mine was imported in 1976, and the first owner showed me the original bill of sale. It cost $328 then IIRC, but I paid him $350 several years ago after he threw in rings, bases, scope and the original box. (One of your harder bargainers there  )
I thought that they were built on Krico 600 and 660 actions, but the Euros like to swap actions and names around. There was a CIL Anshutz 1574 variation at one time too. The only one of those that I have ever seen was in .222 and was not for sale.:(

Dogleg, you are correct, they were built on Krico Receivers, thank you for putting it so politely. I was thinking of a 22 that I have with their name on it but uses a Voere built receiver. For all that I know about it it may have only been assembled for Anscutz. Bearhunter

I found one of these for sale this week in 308. Model 1574. I am just doing some research as I know nothing about these rifles. The one I found is $1000.

If its in very good condition its a buy at that price. These rifles are from a different time and place, where quality wasn’t something that came as a surprise, it was the minimum expection. Replacement mags are almost impossible to find, but lets just say cough cough, I know a guy cough cough:)
