Are these going to be shipped even though the Modern Sporter is currently listed as prohib? Just wondering if there is any point in ordering, knowing that you will never see it.

It sounds like ATRS considers the Canadian gunsmithing industry less as competition and more like the collaborative local distilling and brewing industry. They know they have a premium, well regarded product, like a well aged whisky, and they don't mind if someone else takes a crack at some weekend-drinking whisky of a bit less quality. And the more gun smiths producing product when the ban hammer hits, the more allies they have when fighting the feds. Good luck to both ATRS and Sterling!

The Canadian Shooting community is a harsh critic and I hope history will remember some of the other innovators more favorably than they currently do: Top of my mind is Jeff H of the ill fated NEA company. Regardless of the quality issues with his rifles, he was a true innovator in Canada.

We need to remember that he was the first mass producer of AR15s in Canada. He also was the first,by at least a year to get us a non-restricted AR102. This opened up the community for so many new products. The CSS stock was also his invention and has been copied by many. He's actually his harshest critic about business operations, but he was a great designer.

Dlask made some AR15s earlier, but they were problematic, but again. He eventually got them sorted. Which suprized me as J. Dlask is an incredible gunsmith and fabricator. Dlask has now come out with some superb rimfire items and he always has given us lots of amazing accessories over the years.

And of course some great notable manufacturers like Para Ordnance that started in Canada. PGW, Cadex and MDT along with some sleepers like Ultimatum and IBI... The list is pretty impressive given the difficulty to do business in this country.

Just my 2 cents...

There are a lot more, but most are unsung. This industry is tou

All sets paid for will be shipped as the purchaser is the owner. But yes, it will be a paper weight.... a very pretty paperweight.

Are these exactly the same as the Modern Sporter? Just lower quality aluminum right? Did all the parts, buffer tube, safety, charging handle, etc. fit well?

Not lower quality aluminum... softer aluminum. To be honest, there is a lot of discussions about what is better for a receiver set: 6061 or 7055... We went for the 6061 because it is, in my opinion, and a lot of others is safer as it will bulge and not splinter if the firearm has a case explosion out of battery. But the receivers are hard anodized.

But yes... all other standard AR15 parts fit, except the rear retainer pin, which will come with it.

They went together without any issues or having to ream out any pin holes... the bolt catch retainer is a screw as well, not a pin, like the SAI102. ;-)

No, this is not a "licensed" copy. I spoke with Rick at ATRS to see if he would license it to me.... long story short, he wasnʻt interested and even stated that the design was in the public domain, so anyone was free to copy it.... I tried to give him money... honest...

Basically, we have a Sterling model in with the RCMP that should for all intents and purposes be non-resticted, but itʻs been in for about 18 months. When the talk of a ban started, we switched gears to get, what we hoped was something out to market asap.... we misjudged obviously.

yes, weʻve also heard about the ATRS Sporter being deemed prohibit today internally with the RCMP, but nothing has been "published" yet. On the FRT I can see through the dealer portal, it is still non-restricted. In order to ensure we are on the "list" we felt we had to get this out in the public domain today... basically proof of commercialization and retail.

We donʻt expect to sell many, if any, but Trudope and Billy the Bully Blair cannot avoid paying us our pound of flesh now... If we lose our court challenge...

You filled the complaint to stop another retailer from bringing in Swiss Arms, and got them prohibited. Don’t act like a saviour now

I'm not acting like a saviour and you have every right to not like me nor buy from me, but you're hardly explaining the entire story. Plus it is over 7 years ago.

JR

Some of us have more than 7 year memories.

Thank you JR for making these available and standing uo for the firearms community. Also for being so kind in your replies to all the posts by people who clearly havent taken the time to read the thread before they go running their mouths and repeat the exact same things that have been addressed multiple times.
