Mountain Hunting Pants

Camo isn’t big in mountaineering, I have Patagonia, Mountain Hardware, Sitka, Kuiu, Arcteryx and gear I’m certainly forgetting. All the quality options are the same stuff, but the Kuiu has the best pockets and venting layout, and much thicker knees than the mountaineering (non-hunting) brands. The knees, pockets, and camo are the main difference. For packs I prefer my Arcteryx and don’t think the hunting brands can compete on pack comfort, but they do meat webs better. :d

What kind of arcteryx pack?

In addition to some of the usual suspects I have a pair of Prana brand "Stretch Zion." They're a lightweight hiking pant that I saw recommended once by one of the Meateater guys or something so I picked them up on sale. Not a very durable pant for scrambling or bushwhacking but lightweight with decent pockets. They're great for hiking lots of miles. Belt loops but also have their own cinch. It's definitely a pair I like having in the closet for the right occasions, when something heavier-duty like the Sitka Timberlines seem too heavy and warm.

true for the camo but if put aside look any shoeller fabric and may discover a different world ... for the pockets not sure.

what i do like is a bellay jacket and seems everybody now is copying that kind. it may save your butt one day. it did to me a few times in the alps when i was younger ...

I’ve got two light down jackets / belay coats, a Patagonia and a Kuiu, frankly they’re both the same thing, except I get the Kuiu for around half price. I’m a huge fan of a light down stuff jacket too Phil! Weighs nothing, takes no space when you’re not using it, and hell for warm.

No discounts on Patagonia for industry / guides, but Kuiu cuts a serious deal, was 50% and some of it free in the beginning.
