I'm about to move house and have read through a bunch of literature on this subject.

I have ammo & reloading components I would like to store. I would ideally like to store these in a dedicated metal cabinet in an outbuilding (detached garage)

From what I can tell:

1) The regs state powder should be stored in its original container. My powder came in a plastic bag from Higginson (comes that way cos its measured from bulk is my understanding). I put it into plastic containers and clearly marked them - I assume this is good?

2) The regs state that power should be placed in a wooden box (not metal) so I assume this means the plastic container I poured the powder into goes into a wooden box? Is is then OK to place the wooden box in a metal cabinet like I mentioned previously? PITA but if it keeps things legal.....

3) It is OK to store powder (up to 75kg for detached outbuildings) and primers together - can ammo also be legally stored in the same place?

Further reading makes me think that powder / ammo / primers can be stored in a metal container so long as it has painted shelves (ie non sparking), doesn't have to be wood.

Looks like ammo can be stored in the same metal cabinet too so long as I keep it on a seperate shelf or on the same shelf if separated by wood.

You're reading the wrong regs. Put everything on a shelf, in a cabinet, or just where ever in a "suitable container" and be done with it. This wood/steel/painted stuff? Don't know where you got half of that from. All my stuff sits on a shelf in the original packaging, it's legal and safe.

I got it from the regs 4n2t0 posted.

What regs are you working off?

Not all plastic containers are equal...the powder comes in conductive vinyl containers. Used to be metal for the most part. If you are using anything else you can get a spark as you pour powder in or out. I save all my old powder bottles and use them for Higginson's stuff (and the powder you get from Higginson comes in conductive vinyl bags)
