Hi
The family enjoys casual target pistol shooting up to 10 meters. We have a Crosman 1322 with steel breech and a red dot, but would like to get something that you don't have to pump and load a pellet each time. We would like to get a second air pistol.

I guess it would be:
  • CO2,
  • Pellet .177 or .22(not BB - not sure why?),
  • Multi shot (magazine),
  • Rail for a scope/red dot,
  • Realistic look and feel (more metal than plastic) - but blowback is not important,
  • Reasonably accurate,
  • Won't break the bank.

We have watched lots of videos and read reviews but are still not sure what to get. Seems these guns are made in Japan, Turkey, Iran and Germany and are all pretty much the same but the prices range quite a bit. A good second-hand gun may do too.

Any recommendations about what gun would suit us would be welcome.
Thanks.

Umarex replicas with the rotary mag tick all the boxes except for the scope rail. There used to be an accessory rail that replaced the rear sight but not seen it advertised for some time so don't know if it is still available. Having tried it years ago, I went back to the open sights anyway as I preferred them.
I have tried almost all of them and the CP88 was my favourite. I sold them all off but might re-buy that one...

As someone that owns lots of airguns it is hard to beat quality. My Webley pistol is my oldest gun and will outlast them all except my Weirhauch. They will also keep their value over the years, unlike the others that are toy quality. It won't hold a scope rail and it is not C02 but better than any of them in quality.

I assume you mean the old Tempest / Hurricane / Typhoon and not the latest "versions" which are made in Turkey (by Hatsan, I think). I had an original Tempest 30 years ago but didn't really take to it, despite the sentiment (I am British)!
Umarex are also good quality and certainly not toys - proportional to the price you pay, top ones being the CP88, 1911, 92 which are made in Germany and will last a long time. Some of their others do come from Taiwan but are still not bad. My Weihrauch HW45 is indeed a step higher but their quality is not limitless. When I took my HW77 rifle apart, I found the spring had broken in two places. Still winning FT contests though!

I like my Weirhauchs and Webleys much better than my C02 guns, even if they are a pain to service now and then. Both companies make powder burning guns as well, and have a long history of quality.Umarex are toy quality and I have a number of them made in Germany .Before WW2 Germany made the best guns, and then their WW2 weapons terrified the world.Umarex changed that forever to make weak, silly guns.

I recall there is a Cdn retailer that was selling a (?) Daystate detuned pcp target pistol. Expensive but probably would last a long time. Parts & service could be a problem though.

Airgunsource has a horrible mobile site They must not have any $ to pay someone to keep it up.

Supposedly they have the Diana Bandit but their mobile site is so bad you can't tell.

hammerly AP20pro

Reasonably VERY accurate,
Won't break the bank (resale value)
if any other reasons more important you do not need it

If you’re not too fixated on realism the Diana chaser pistol may be a good option, according to reviews.

Agreed.. The Chaser is a good value for the dollar.

Has a Alum breech with a 11mm rail, can use 7 shot ( 22 ) or 9rds 177 magazines without having to upgrade the breech. Can store a spare co2 cart in the grip. You can get a stock, that can be installed w/o tools. You get adjustable sights, threaded muzzle. Also features an adjustable trigger. By the time you upgrade a Crosman 2240 to include those options, your nearly double the cost of the Chaser.

But I probably would get a 177 Walter CP88 6" comp. Down side is you need to purchase an aftermarket rail in order to mount an red dot. Most of those Umerax do.
