75 / 77 grain .223. Where to get it.

Full Ammunition. Black Hills. Federal. What choices are there really?
Even 69gr?

I believe Milarm :)puke:) imports Blackhills match ammo.
I've tried their 68 & 75 grain match ammo and was disappointed overall.
Federal match is good stuff, but both types will be a pretty penny.
For the cost of a 1000 rounds of match ammo, you could be well on your way to making it yourself.

Here's a breakdown of loading components:

$240 - 1000 cases (new Winchester)
$280 - 1000 69gr. SMK (500 bulk boxes)
$ 40 - 1000 Primers (Fed 205m match)
$ 85 - 3.5 lbs Powder for 1000 cases (25gr. Varget per case)
$645 - 1000 rounds of match ammo using brand new cases.
Reusing cases say 4 times reduces costs to $465 per 1000 for 4000 rounds. Considering White box ammo is going for the $400 mark these days, handloading is a good investment.

$465 per thousand *match* handloads, and that's only using the cases 4 times (you can probably get 10 uses per case).

Compare that to the price of match ammo at around $30 (or more!) per 20, or $1500 per thousand.

That's about a thousand dollar savings! You can afford some pretty cream-of-the-crop reloading gear for a grand

I feel your frustration... I have been trying out several factory loads for my Savage... I will reload one day... but it isn't here yet.

I have tried the 75 gr Black hills for $38/50 rnds and the 77 gr Black hills for $50/50 rnds... both work well, but bought the 75 because it was cheaper. Milarm imports it...

Otherwise, Federal Gold Medal Match comes in a 69 gr and a 77 gr bullet... both shot well, but are very expensive. The 77gr stuff I found at a local store, and Wholesale sells the 69gr stuff for $23/20 rnds.

Hirsch precision sells 69 gr Lapua ammo... again wonderful... but costs $1.39/round

When I have the time to learn to re-load and develop a load, I will eventually go that route... until then... I use Winchester USA 55gr ammo for 100 and 200 m practice, and the Black hills for 300m...

Hope this helps.
