I pieced together a model 700 last fall. A 1964 cut receiver model 700 short action. A new wolf striker spring, wyatt box, trigger tech, a 24" Remington SPS take off barrel in 7mm-08, a Remington Classic short action stock and some cerekote paint. Bedded it was shooting the 162 gr bullets really well.
I decided to see what the 120 gr bullets would do. The Sierra Pro Hunters have always been a favorite. I loaded them with Lapua brass, mag primers and Reloader 17. They shot well too. Really well at 52.0 gr and 3300 fps! This was surprising. The bolt lift and brass seems fine. I used quickload to estimate 64K psi over the SAAMI max of 61. A touch over pressure. Completely unnecessary, dangerous and not recommended. But I think I like my new 7mm-08 Rem Mag.
Don't try this at home.

A typical 100 yard group

550 yards- three shots in there

Trigger Tech are Great triggers - I have a few of them and REALLY like them ! RJ

Amazing performance from that 7-08, push round feed to boot!

Might not be a big secret or it could be?

Word is there will be a “Canada day” sale... Insert Trudeau voice for Canada day.

That's incredible , have you tried RL17 in your 284win, I'm interested in what the fps would be.

Yes I did originally but settled on H4350. I had a 140 Sierra Prohunter at 3200 fps with 56gr RL 17. Most of the bullets I was shooting out of the 284 were the TTSX or Berger type, they showed pressure much quicker if pushed. The load that worked well was 57gr of H4350 and a 120TTSX at 3330. I'm trying that Canada Ammo Dominion powder now. The Winchester 284 brass is holding in quite well. 7 times fired and only a few tossed.

H4831 and H4350 work well in my 284. My micro has a 20" barrel. It should work well with 120 gr ttsx for blacktails. I have some RL17, I just need to experiment with it to see what it will do.

Nice rifle and load... I am just in the early stages of load development for my Ruger M77 Mark II Frontier 7-08... not looking to make it a Magnum, just a peppy little bugger... RL-17 is on the menu.

The Dominion 4350ssc is more like a 4831. It's working well in the 284win with 140ttsx 56 gr at just over 3000 fps. I can't get enough of this powder into the case to get the 120's to shoot well, whereas they shoot great with a slightly faster powder.

I've tried the D4064 in the 7-08 and the 120 Sierras. Accuracy was ok but not like the reloader 17 load.

Thanks. I have had good luck with RL 17 in my 260's, 7-08 and 6.5/284. Usually good for another 50-100 fps and the ttsx's like to shoot accurately as fast as you can get them to go.

This is a good write up on it.

What sort of speed did you get with the 4064? Did you try heavier bullets with it?

I haven't tried heavier bullets in the 7-08 with 4064 yet

47 gr 2.79" 3160fps
47.5 gr 2.77" 3200 fps
46.5 gr 2.76 3150 fps

Note Sierra lists ImR 4064 max at 44 gr and 3100 for this 120 gr bullet so work up and be careful

Before Varget and RL 17 became available and before the Nosler Ballistic Tip I used IMR 4064 with the 120 and 140 Nosler Solid Base bullets in my Remington Model 700 V. While IMR 4054 was more temperature sensitive than the newer powders it worked well with the Nosler SB bullets which were a good fit in the 7mm08. Here are the loads that I used in the 700 V and can attest to the fact that the 140 SB, at 3000 fps when right through both lungs and out the other side of a bull moose at 600 yards:
