Just got my Marlin 1894 dark series in 357! Overall first impression is a positive one. Fit and finish is nice, im not crazy about the spider web painted stock but in person its not as bad as i had assumed. Only thing i will note is take the rifle apart and lube it up. Not a bad idea for any new rifle. They come with minimal oil from factory.
These rifles seem to be just getting into peoples hands and ive noticed prices increase by few hundred since may 1.
I was never able to find any actual pictures other than 2 from shotshow online so if anyone else is looking for info or images I'll take some and post them up!
My idea/concept for this rifle is a middle finger to the new firearms legislation. It will have to fit the role of my AR15 for sport shooting. 16.5" barrel is perfect for keeping the weight down (6.5lbs) and the top rail will be nice for all those AR optics that are now on wall hangers. The factory peep sights are really nice as well. Marlin even supplies a nice little hammer extension and the knurling on that and the thread protector are done nice.
I know these guns get a lot of hate from the lever purists but in my defense I do also have a JM 336 in 30-30 from 1951 that im not measing with other than skinner sights. Best of both worlds!
Here is my current plan so I can still use all the stuff I have for my AR that is now too dangerous for me to use.
Edit: just took off the stock and it is definitely laminate under the coating, not particle board as previously rumoured
