Just thought I'd check to make sure I didn't have Hitler's own stash of ammunition of something here before I got blast it off at the range. :D :50cal:

About 6-8 boxes of this came in the cardboard carrier box below (hopefully you can make out the identification stickers). Just plain jane WWII era 8mm surplus?

Any what about these 8mm dummy rounds?

Ironically a friend was just selling something simular at the gun show yesterday. Said his was Luftwaffe 300 rounds to a cloth belt.
Well that was his story. He was going to let me have it for 100 bucks.
I guess yours are 10 round boxes?

Sure the dummies are not 30-06? Hs is US Frankford Arsenal Aug 1906 in a 2lug 30-06? clip.

Could very well be - I didn't look at them too close. They were with the 8mm stuff, and I just assumed that's what they were - but I guess everybody knows what happens when you ass-u-me :( :D

SMK: Stahl mit Kern: Steel with Core. This is Armour-piercing ammo.
The standard Ball-type ammo with the iron core was called SmE: Stahl mit Eisen.

Sure with I could find a couple boxes of that stuff for a test!

Here the head stamp (I have 7 full boxes of 15 rounds)

Is armour piercing harder/easier to find? Is it worth anything?

There was also a box with only 2 rounds left - they had 2 different head stamps

Oh, and the dummy rounds are 30-06, but they appear to have live primers - any reason for that?

I was once told that German ammunition was made to be used within a few years of making, and British and US ammunition was made to be stored for many years before using. (Last-in, First-out vs First-in Last-out) Differences in the chemical composition of the primer and powder may give you wonky elevations.

For armour piercing or regular 8mm?

SMK is fairly common, a friend gave me a couple boxes not too long ago. The guys with full auto MG34 and 42's in the States were buying it up at 7 cents a round. It goes to show how ridiculous the pricing can be on the low and high side, just depends on who is selling it. Shop around, all that glitters isn't Gold.
