Okay guys heres the problem, crushed my right hand about 8 months ago and still get pains in right hand working actions last 4 finger were caught in hydrolic machinery and got crushed right at the nuckles. my right hand goes numb every morning untill i get circulation going. been buying and selling till i find what works.. i get pains just wrapping my hands around grips ,pistol griped autos work okay but now are no,no to own. Ive tried all levers but its to painfull to cycle with right hand.tried left hand and i cant do it.. i cant wrap my hand around a regular bolt action stock without discomfort.Ive seeen the merkel helix which is a straight pull and now have the thumb hole stock but the guns are not available in canada as far as i can tell.ive gone through tones of guns ,marlins ,winchesters, tikkas even left handed guns but no luck.ive put 90 percent of my guns for sale and sold them...i just cant keep buying them and putting for sale again.. anyone have sugestions this is getting frustrating...

Give it at least another 6 months to heal... see about therapy... quit panic buying... Hopefully it will recover enough that you can handle using a bolt action...

Slide action like a Remington 760/7600. I think there are synthetic stocks with pistol grip available. Or consider what Guntech said: I cannot imagine the pain of your injury, and the thought makes me cringe. I hope it heals well, and that with the time it takes to heal you will regain painless mobility with your right hand.

Cut the nerves on one hand on a cable car, took a long time to get any feeling back, wait and see, doc should be able to say.

Grizz

I second guntechs advice.
Panic buying never bodes well.
Work related injury ??? (no need to explain further talking outloud)
What does your physio suggest for therapy?
I know Work Safe BC treats its client therapy as a job.
The start time is the start time and coffee break is coffee break.
Hope you over come your life altering injury and are able to get back to work and a normal life...as normal as life can be.

Sorry to read of your injury Dogger. As a tradesman, heavy trucks, I know of painful injuries, not just at the current time, but also going forward. A healed injury at rest may have no pain, but grabbing or pushing against the area causes enough pain to take the future fun out of doing things. This is compounded if the injury is to your primary hand.

You have had some good advice so far. My 2 cents comes from a left side shooter, so I have always approached shooting from a "make things work" perspective. Seeing as you have looked at the usual levers, semis, and maybe pumps, may I suggest break opens.

First you have not said what part of Canuckistan you hunt in. I my part of BC, black and grizzly bears, as well as cow moose present a self defence issue, where follow up shots could be essential.

Second would be range, say for instance a Saskatchewan pronghorn hunt will not happen at the cheaper end of my ideas.

Third in my thoughts is your means. Were you able to afford higher end guns before the accident and might you in the future? No need to respond. Well here are my ideas.

You might read up on the exploits of African hunters using classic double rifles. Two in the chambers and two between the fingers of the support hand can make for a quick four rounds. There are lots of articles around themed "poor man's double" and so forth, where one uses side by side shot guns with slugs. This is a cheap entry point, and possibly a fun experiment. For the more affluent, the sky is the limit as far as double rifles is concerned.

If your hunting is mixed game and birds with no protection requirement there are lots of over under rifle/shotgun combos available. Again regarding affluence, there are lots of European drillings that cover a range of hunting situations.

Good luck and I hopes this helps in some way.

When I was 20 I badly sprained my ankle on a Tues then ran a 5Km race by Friday. Fast forward 40 odd years and it doesn't work that way anymore. Twisted my knee at work a few years ago and it took a YEAR, almost to the day, before I went just 1 day without pain. Sorry for your accident but get some physiotherapy and get healed. I got lucky and the physio guy I saw said not to go for surgery, exercise for a long period of time, it's slow but it works. Get thee healed. Best of luck.

I shot left handed for 35 yrs until a medical issue ruined my left eye leaving me no choice but to learn to shoot right handed. It is a process to learn the mechanics of muscle control to shoot wrong-handed but it can be done...Im not going to $hit you, it isn't easy to begin with but with a handi-cap that gives you no choice...buck up and get att'er.
In your case I would suggest a left handed bolt gun ( from your description I think your thumb is still OK to use) with a thumb hole of some kind added (something connected to the sling swivel come to mind as an easy start) to the front stock and use that to stabilize the front of the gun...the rest of your injured hand can assume any posture that is comfortable under the conditions you are left with.

It might look "unorthodox" but if it works who cares...fact is your hand is different than it was and, altho others are confident it will return to some normalcy, there is no guarantee of this...crush injuries aren't just soft tissue problems that rejuvenate themselves...re-arranged bones stay rearranged if surgery cant fix them and sounds like your in this category...so my advise to you is make the best of what you are left with and something "just out of a manufacturers box" might not be around so you have to think "out of the box".

What guntech said. Give it time, and see physio.

I watched Dad pinch his web of his hand in between a rail road spike, that he ended having to ripping it out ( Since I was a kid and didn't have the strength to pull the spike out ) Then nearly severing his thumb ( Learned to drive stick because of that ) He shoots normal now.

I’m in the same boat, only my support hand is my issue. Rifle/shotgun right now is difficult, if not impossible.
You’ll find something that will work, but time will be your ally.

Why haven’t you tried pump rifles yet? The Remington 76-whatever is a great hunting rifle. As accurate as any bolt action rifle.

Read his post... he wrote, " cant wrap my hand around a regular bolt action stock without discomfort."

It doesn't matter how well your pump rifle shoots... HE CAN'T GRIP A RIFLE RIGHT NOW...

Several companies make pistol gripped stocks for the remington 740/742/7400 series semi autos, which are not on the prohib list.

When you think you're healed up and recovered as much as you are able, you may want to try a Blaser R8. Straight pull bolt, just a push- pull motion. Available in a pistol grip model, " R8 Success". Superbly built and excellent ergonomics. The ####/ decock feature might be a challenge for you though. They are expensive, so not a rifle you'd want to buy just to try. Perhaps when the time comes you can visit a dealer and try one there. One very nice feature is that you can quickly swap barrels, and have more than one caliber in one stock / receiver.

Would a mdt chassis with an ergo grip and oversized bolt handle help? You could have a giant bolt handle know made to fit what you can move or have it made as a straight shaft so you could just hook it behind your thumb to rise and pull back then palm it forward and down

Sounds like custom is the way to go. The ergo grip is very wide so the web of the hand can give you the support
Best of luck

As others have said time and physio, hopefully will improve your problem. Once pulled my hamstring, was 2 years before I could work the clutch on my truck and not feel it.

For bolt actions, have you tried working the bolt with the palm of your hand? Technique might help your situation somwhat. Single shot break open henry's might work also, but requires gripping a standard stock and using thumb strength. Best of luck to you.

Well, I'd recommend something in semi auto like a Browning BAR. You could also try a black rifle in 308. Perhaps a bullpup where most of the support is on the left hand and shoulder. Really if you're having difficulty I think semi is the answer and then it's just finding a stock you are able to hold ok and putting that on a rifle you like.
