The New Colt Python Officially Unveiled

Liked the books. The tv series was ok. The latest Wahlberg movie drifted far away from the original story. - dan

I wasn’t aware there were books I’ll look into them. The Wahlberg movie seemed completely unconnected to the characters of the show...much like most remakes I suppose.

Still want the new python

Robert B Parker was the author. He's dead now and the last few were finished by another. Parker also wrote Appaloosa (and a few others in the series), which was a pretty good western. - dan

I also learned that Colt are manufacturing between 1200-1300 Pythons every month since they began commercial production in Dec. 2019, they also had just under 30 Pythons serviced for cylinder failure to rotate issue, the issue was a loose side plate due to off spec screws tightening from the assembly line (and missed by QC) that cause the hand to be un-properly supported and fail engaging the ratchet and rotate the cylinder. Very few had light primer strike issues, all of them using imported ammo with harder spec primers. All were from the first couple months of production so ~30 out of ~2500 commercial production units manufactured (~PY001001 - PY003500) Since Colt acknowledge the issues in a mid-Feb. Youtube video, all post mid-February production have tighten to specs screws and have a thread locker applied from factory plus a new modified mainspring replacing the original so it will enable harder primers to be ignited but this change would have a slight effect DA pull but it would still be into spec of 7.5-9#. A bunch were also serviced for defective crown due to their initial finishing process method, this issue was also corrected. Colt never issued a recall campaign on the new Python.

I didn't find any of their pre-production samples (Pre PY001001 serial #) tested by both Colt and numerous journalists showing any issues.

From the information I gathered all 2020 Pythons manufactured after mid-February or after serial PY003500 should be the updated version.

Anyone looking to buy a 4.25”, SFRC has a 15% sale code «#June#» and they show three 4.25” Pythons in stock right now @ $2379.95. Looks like Colt products are included in the sale! Comes down to $2023 before tax and shipping... an awesome deal if you ask me!

Updated, meaning the worked out bugs version? I want one bad but like with cars, anything new, I always wait for generation 2 or later.

^^ Exactly. The fix for the bugs reported in the first ~2500 units manufactured (serial PY001001 to PY003500) in December 2019 and January 2020 were released in mid-February right around serial PY003500. No issues were reported in these “2.0” updated versions.
