Well I have been wanting a 1911 for quite some time now.

So finally caved in and bought a nice , if not used Colt Model 80 SS.
Slide was a bit loose, it had a few dings and scraps, character traits..

I took it to the range and shot some well nice groups with it. surprised the hell out of me on how gentle this gun is handling .45..

Points nice, grip feel natural, just all around great gun.

Never had a 1911, I have Rugers, HK, CZs,Sig, Glock, but honestly this 1911 just blew me away on how good it feels. it quickly becomes an extension to your hand, and points dead on.

Should of got one sooner, but this ol' Colt just does the trick.

If there is one draw back that would be the sights, those black sights, but that can be easily changed.

For now I will be making some nice .45 for this puppy, just cant wait to bring it home, once the transfer is complete (sitting at the club for now)

I will get some pics up , to me its a work of art!

A big thank you to Mr. Browning for such a stroke of genius on a design that is proven over time and time again.

One new converted 1911 er:evil:

Colts don't have the greatest fit and finish and tend to be a bit on the loose side, but they usually shoot reliably right out of the box and last a pretty long time, which is not something that can be said of all 1911s out there.

Thanks,

For me this being my first ever 1911, I was amazed at the natural fit. I was expecting a bulking thing , not point right, with a loose grip.. But hey live and learn.

While I hear alot of stories about 1911, but I must say for this quality of gun to be available back in those days, is a real testament to Browning.

Now to shop for some good sights.

Any thoughts on this matter ???

First off, WHERE ARE THE PICS??!!:D

I love Novak sights. They need to be fitted but look great and are snag free. There is even an adjustable version I think you can get from Freedom Ventures.

If its a Mark IV Series 80, I used to have one and really liked that handgun. Everyone told me the collet style front bushing would cause accuracy problems, that it would break. Neither was the case, the gun was very accurate and reliable. Never a problem.

As for pics, since the gun is not sitting at home. All I can do is offer this as a place holder. Imagine it with a bit of wear :)

I've had several Colts with the collet style bushing [usually Series 70 pistols] - never had an accuracy issue & despite hundreds of .45ACP's down the barrels never had one break either. That said, I have seen collet bushings with a 'finger' broken off but never one that was my own.
