Good Day,

I have a very weak mag realse on a colt 1911, when I realse the mag it barely drops out. The mags I’m using are original to the pistol and they are 8 rd colt mags. Is this a mag issue, or something else?

Thx

Not much to go on but lets get the simple question out of the way, are you pressing too hard?

Anyhoo, take the grips off and have a look see.

Yup pressing hard, I have taken the panels off before, but will do so agian. i do notice it does seem to get little hung up when inserting a mag about 75% of the way in. Was looking at getting some Wilson 10 rd mags, but they seem to be hard to find and expensive.

Maybe rubbing the trigger bars, the mag release has nothing to do with the mags dropping free, unless it is still rubbing when the mad drops.
Too long grip screws can do this look for rub marks on the mags, and the trigger bows, remove the mag release and see if that helps .
If it is just one mag, it could be a bit fat, but if all are doing it, something in the gun.
I don't have 10 rd, but have SS Wilson and they are VG and smooth, I see you took the grip screws out, check the screw bushings for a rough edge.
Remove the slide and shine a light up from bottom and you may see where it is tight .

Thx for the suggestion will check, both mags do the same thing. They do drop free, it’s just not with a lot force behind them, they barely fall out, is this common with a 1911?

Tried all you suggestions, no burs I could see or feel, trigger bow and grib screws not protruding into mag well, took the slide off mag not hung up on anything and moves easily when touched. Don’t think it the mag catch either as I can see it depressed past the mag well, Maybe I makeing an apples to to oranges comparison with my other pistols. Unless there is something else you can think of.

If they just fall out , that sounds normal to me, the slide closed will put a bit of pressure on the follower to start them out, depending on the mags, and the shape of the follower.

Yup with slide closed, thy pop out faster. I guess it’s normal, just different from my other pistols. Thx agian
