Are the Marlin 1895Gs worth the money to buy?

The 45-70 makes a great Bush gun, and the 18.5" barrel is nice to have in bush as well. Does the short barrel neuter the round, and should one just go and buy the 22" version? The longer barrel would help with site radius and higher velocity, or the does the 45-70 not really care about the lost 3.5".

Also, have the new Marlins got thier sh%t together yet?

I've had the 22 inch barrel models and guide guns,never noticed a bit of difference in accuracy ,both were good shooters.I would avoid any remlins except new manufaure 2018,2019,2020 I wouldn't hesitate a bit.The guide model is a lot easier to carry in thick brush and it points quickly ,maybe just a bit more recoil with hsm type loads than the longer barrel.

What he said - I have both except I have a 24 inch not a 2 inch and a ported guide gun
The guide gun gets hunted with, the 24 inch gun is a safe queen.

I would say less recoil but more muzzle blast. You will never have more recoil with a shorter barrel as the bullet cannot go faster than with a longer barrel. But a serious increase in decibles will be experienced as the bullet is released earlier at a higher pressure stage before it drops and that release happens closer to your ears.
 
I've had several guide guns and I now have a 24" XLR. I like the pistol grip of the XLR much more. The long barrel is nicer for sight radius but a bit unwieldy for some situations. I think the perfect gun would be pistol grip with about 20 inches of barrel.
 
I have a Ruger #3, quite a short barrel. I can still get a 405gr cast at 1700 FPS. The Marlin I had was loaded a little lower but worked well (less recoil too). You will have no trouble with the shorter barrel. Handle them and get the one that feels right.
 
I have a 2018 manufactured 1895G . Shoots very accurately and has been totally reliable with every load I've put through it . I've had a number of 1895's over the years , including a first year of production model . My current rifle shoots as well , actually better than some , as any I've owned . The wood to metal fit isn't as well executed as the older models , but other than that , no complaints . It's a handy , powerful and reliable little rifle .
 
I’ve had a couple 1895G’s . One with a ported barrel and one that wasn’t. The ported one was way too loud. It got sold.
The non-ported one was nice. The 1895g is convenient to carry around.
Plenty of power with the short barrel. Unless you are hunting T-Rex �� you won’t notice a need for more power. That is what they make .458 win mag for!

More " felt recoil " from shorter barrels,although the actual recoil is no more it " feels " like more recoil off the shoulder ,every short barrel rifle has been the same noticeable differnce for me.

I'd just say more "startle" than felt. Just conflating "felt recoil" with the startle/flinch they get with the obnoxious muzzle blast.
