Looking for advice on a decent bolt action in 7.62x39

OK thanks folks, lots of food for thought, I"m a bit disappointed the Savage is a 308 bore, kind of detracts from it for me. What is the bore on the Ruger Rancher Rifle?

The tighter bore means you can reload with any .308 bullet for great accuracy... and it will shoot the over size factory bullets as well. Nothing to be afraid of with a .308 bore.

I have the cz I like it but it has its faults. The wood behind the tang broke out right away. The set trigger is so light I never use it it’s less than a pound and I could not adjust the gritty creep out of the normal setting trigger.l

Mine failed in the same spot after 200 odd rounds. The action and trigger are fine to my humble requirements. I will likely switch out the wood stock as the walnut is looking ugly after the repair.

That be why I jumped on a Ruger Mk II (Davidson's Exclusive) unit back in the early 80's. Fook me, that little bugger shot tight with my handloads with bullets in the 130-150 gr range. I used that unit for over 20 yrs on many a mission without hiccups. Another wee beasty I should've kept a tad longer.

I had a CZ527 for awhile, and like the handling and overall feel; but despite the fact that I am a fan of set triggers, the one on the CZ was quite underwhelming. Used as a standard trigger it was quite shootable, but when set the trigger pull was noticeably inconsistent from shot to shot...enough so as to completely negate the advantage of having a set trigger.

I also had a Savage Scout in 7.62z39, and was very happy with it; no complaints at all, except for a bit of trouble finding extra magazines for it. I've always thought that the Savage Scout rifles offered the best value per dollar of any factory scout, and this one was no exception. Shouldn't have let it go. It shot every bit as well as the CZ despite having the "wrong" bore size.

I need a Ruger American Ranch in the x39. I have a bunch of magazines and a bunch of ammo waiting for it. :)
