Hi folks,

I have a Rem 597 and ordered a stock, the VQ hammer and the VQ extractor.

The QD post for the bipod went straight in - no problems.
The VQ hammer went straight in - no problems.

The VQ extractor is giving me some troubles.

I have followed the instruction threads on RimfireCentral.com but just can't seem to get the extractor to fit properly. I tried for at least an hour but it just wouldn't go. I am very mechanically inclined and installed the hammer in about 5 minutes without any instructions. I ended up putting the stock extractor back in, which took about 15 seconds, and had the rifle reassembled in about 3 minutes, guide rails and all.

First question: The spring that comes with the VQ extractor doesn't fit the 597. The sheet that comes with it says to use it though. What gives? I am using the Remington spring because it is the only one that seems to fit. Is this wrong?

Second question: When I look at the pictures of the VQ extractor properly installed, the hook portion is quite close to the face of the bolt, similar to the stock extractor on mine. When I attempt to install my VQ extractor, I cannot get it anywhere near the closeness of the pictures. My hook is about 3/16ths of an inch from the bolt. It just won't go any closer. The hole that is milled into the bolt won't allow the rear portion of the extractor to go in any further. What am I doing wrong? Is it possible that I have a mis-shaped VQ extractor and/or bolt? Anyone else having/had problems similar to this?

FWIW: The trigger pull is about one half of the weight it used to be. I haven't measured it yet but it's much better than the stock hammer. I'll run a few hundred rounds through it and see how it is after that.

Thanks for any help that you can give. I love this rifle and want it to be the best.
