Did I get mistaken for mom?

Up at the cottage this weekend, on my nightly walk, I spot something cross the trail far enough ahead that I can't tell exactly what it is, it kind of looked like a fox with extra long legs at that distance. I walk another 40' or so and the animal pops back onto the trail, turns towards me and bolts in my direction. When I say bolt, I mean it took off full tilt right for me. I froze and didn't figure out it was a fawn until she came within 70' or so but she kept coming and didn't put the binders on till she was almost on top of me. When she finally did stop, she sniffed my right hand, walked behind me, sniffed my left hand, came in front again, looked me up and down, then walked off into the bush. I was wearing Jean shorts, a blue hat and a red sweater. Do you think the fawn got so turned around from mom, that she could have mistaken me for her out of distress? Maybe the mother died at some point and she somehow confused me for another deer? The fawn never made a sound and I never heard another deer calling out. It was easily the strangest/coolest thing that has ever happened to me in the bush.

During hunting season, I had two fawns come within a few feet of me wondering what I was. Granted, they were already a summer old at that time. I guess it was just curious and you were bigger than it and moving.

chalk it to a cool experience. Some FN believe that you will see an animal if it has a message for you, deer is Gentleness.

I have had a fawn approach me to within ten feet all the while mom was calling with quiet bleats and the occasional foot stomp.
This lasted about three minutes ....
This was Mid September during the Port Renfrew Rust Festival September 1st to August 31st .....
Cool experience you had and the question begs "Are you to be able to bust a cap on it this fall?" ;)

Thanks guys. I don't hunt the area so I don't have to worry about possibly shooting my spirit animal. I wish I was the kind of person with my phone always at the ready. Would have been great to get it on film.

No you don't....not really.

Cool experience none the less. And you will always remember it.

Sept to August? Now THATS a festival! lol

Cool story OP! thanks for sharing.

If you had your phone ready to go...you would have dicked around taking pictures and videos, rather than just relaxing and enjoying the encounter.
