I wish you asked in December. Sail had the Marlin 795 for $175! Now they seem really hard to find. I'm tempted to offer up my 795 for sale, but it's a hard decision to make.
Thanks I might just have to jump on a sav 64 then.
Just wish it was wood stock but for that price.
They do have them in stock still if anyone else is in the market for a cheap semi .22
I picked up a 10/22 model 31139 that comes without sights many retailers had them on for $299 google may help out. I used it as a base to build but in stock form it was good and accurate.
I actually did order a savage from rangeview.
I had some nice offers on other guns from members who seen this thread.
So thank you but I'm committed now.lol
I am well aware of the potential issues with the 64 but I like tinkering anyways so thought I would give it a chance.
Add a trigger spring kit to a wood stocked Marlin M60 and you've got an accurate, reliable .22 semi auto for under $300. Without the spring kit you've got an accurate, reliable .22 semi auto with a heavy trigger for about $250.
Canadian Tire in Merritt were offering up some Savages in the $170 range also.
Not sure if the value is still current.
Pretty decent store to deal with and staff that will help you.
If you want to spend a bunch of money customizing it, get a Ruger 10/22. In their stock form they aren't worth the price IMO when you can get guns with more features for less - for instance the Marlin 795 has last round bolt hold open and the ability to get 25rd mags, and can be had for $199-220 on sale, which is at least $100 cheaper than the 10/22.
IMO the only reason to buy a 10/22 is if you plan to upgrade it. Aftermarket support is amazing for that gun, but they just aren't anything special in factory configuration.
And the most widely modified after purchase, and for good reason. Companies like Thompson rifle co. Are making a 10/22 that is ready to go right out of the box. Can’t really say anything about the customer service or longevity though.
