Hi All,

I'm interested in doing some collecting of surplus rifles, I would like to stay in the "Very Good" and up grades (including high quality refurbs).
Just wondering if you all have any recommendations for dealers that specialize in this area, While I eventually plan
on doing some shopping on the EE I don't have enough experience with the older stuff to know I'm not getting burned at this point.

The milsurp market is sort of dwindling. You're not gonna find much at dealers besides Mosins and SKS' lately. The EE is definitely the best if you're interested in finding some good examples, but your second best option for high quality stuff might be importing from dealers in the states.

The high grade guns are still there, but not for a $100.00 anymore. Expect to pay pay prices starting at $1,000.00 and up to $5,000.00. Joe Salter for the more recent items and John Denner for the Antiques items.

Esvagt: An advantage to buying on the EE is that most sellers of high end stuff will respond to questions and often provide all the photos you might want. There are some great guys present on this forum who often sell really nice, collectible rifles. And remember: valuable high end collectibles aren't always in "mint" appearing condition.

Some dealers (including some of those listed above) charge a VERY premium price.

Start researching on the net, buying books & magazines, find someone local that you can trust to help out. Look on Youtube, there are videos giving guidance on buying milsurp

Diligently search the EE forum here, look fro sellers with good trader ratings spread over multiple deals. Go to local gun shows when they start up and local gun stores

Don't make any purchases until you have done the above you can easily get burned....

If looking for a really nice Mosin 91/30, a friend of mine ordered a hardwood stocked one from The Gun Dealer in NB. He got an all matching (not re-serialized) Ex-PU in absolutely gorgeous condition. He did not specify "matching numbers" or anything like that either. IF looking for a potentially high(er)-end one, might be worth a look, definitely not a common (now $375ish) "shooter grade" one.
*I do not think need to spark the whole issue around the excessive price jump in milsurps over the last year-two...
**I am holding his firearms while he is on deployment.
Collector Source, and Joe Salter are also going to have some high end stuff. I have dealt with all three multiple times, and never once had an issue, and all are a great bunch to deal with!

You should also check out gun shows. It is hit and miss, but I have seen some really nice gems for sale at some of the shows I have attended over the years.

There are some nice ones on the EE right now,P&S military as always had some interesting stuff,Tradeex as some from time to time they are out there just have to look .The good ones move fast so dont hesitate and know what your looking for.

Nothing replaces doing your research. You can get fleeced anywhere: Dealer, auction, EE... there is no method of buying that will protect you from overpaying unless you do your own research first.
I think auctions are the worst choice for a non-expert though.

Coffice, says he'll start importing, i am trying to buy a piece of cleaning rod from the US, how do i do that.

could we import firearms or parts from foreign countries.

thanks

Get educated on the firearms you want and learn what to look out for first... then spend wisely and never have a regret. Too often one can lose a lot of money on a refurb/fake firearm.

Post what you are interested in and be prepared to pay the price
There are a lot of big collections of various firearms , that is where the dealers are getting them
I find it interesting that people will pay the dealer for product and not their source, the collector

Yes, you can import parts and firearms from other countries. The easiest one is the USA as there are some seamless options out there for us. I use Irunguns. Outside of the USA can be a little weird, and thankfully my wife is an import/export forwarder and she helps out plenty.

Do a Google search to see who will work with what countries out there for importation. Usually it just takes time, effort and money.

For your cleaning rod, honestly I would just order it! I've ordered lots of small parts like that without issue from Liberty Tree as an example, no issues. There are "small parts" import exemptions nowadays I believe.
