Options for Glock optics

Just looking to pick some brains on what way to go, and what those with experience recommend. I'm trying to decide between a factory Glock MOS platform, having a slide milled, or buying an aftermarket slide that is optic ready. I like the idea of the MOS system because the included plates for different optics sounds like a smart way to go, but I already have a Gen 4 G19 and a Gen 4 G34, and I'm local enough to Dlask Arms that I could have them mill a slide for me. I like the look of a lot of the aftermarket slides, but they are pricey and I'm not sure if that route would limit me to a particular optic, or can I get plates for those that give me options? I'm not even sure what optic I would run at this point so any and all info on what you are running and why would help me decide which way to go

I wanted a budget friendly approach, that would allow for some options for the future. So I'm having one of my Shadows milled for a Shadow 2 mounting plate. This way I can try different optics if I want to, and I didn't have to buy another gun.
 
Next time we are up at the range put a few hundred through one of mine to see if a optic is something you’ll like. Milled is cheapest, a few guys around can do it for under $300.
If your planning on jumping out a plane at 30,000 feet with it on your hip, go rmr, otherwise I swear by vortex venoms. I’ve beat 2 of mine up and still going strong.

Thanks for the offer, I will definitely take you up on it. Good to know the Venom is ok, those RMR's are not cheap!

Yes, I think CO will continue to grow. Plenty of old eyeballs can sure use the help. lol!

Speaking of eyeballs, the more astigmatism you have, the more a dot may appear fuzzy or distorted. This will vary from person to person, and brand of dot, along with the brightness level. When trying Ironman's or another brand, keep that in mind. Your eyes might prefer one or another.

Just another reason to go with a mounting plate. :cheers:
 
My Venom failed twice with battery related cut out problems. Pull the battery and re-install the same battery and it's good to go again. I replaced it with a Holosun 507C which is solar with battery back-up. Also has dual reticle, so you can use the "eotech ring", a dot or both, auto shut-off & auto brightness. Awesome optic.

Because I had this failure, I am happy I bought the MOS over having my slide milled. Once milled, you are limited to one optic mounting option. I would have to wait for warranty to Vortex or bought something with the same foot print.
 
Hey, OP, here is my $0.02.
Stick with your iron sights. Learn how to use them, and they won't let you down.

HOWEVER, If you really are considering a red dot for your glock, get the "factory Glock MOS platform". Here is why:
-You get a Glock guaranteed warranty and performance
-Having your slide milled by a third party gunsmith won't guarantee proper fit, and the slide integrity may suffer
-Aftermarket slides aren't tested by Glock, and you are to use them at your own discretion
