I went to the range and tried to shoot my Pardner pump with Tru-Glo Pro-series magnum gobble dot sights and I had such a hard time hitting the target. Seems I'm not meant to use sights lol.

I was wondering what was a good budget reddot sight for a 12ga?

Cheers!

I have this setup for my Pardner pump, but mines 20GA. What didn't you like about the sights?

But if it didn't work, I got a mount and a Bushnell TRS25 as well. Can find them used for under 100$.

Nikon spur is great if you need something close to the rail. Ive had one on a dp12 that mostly shoots 12g slugs and its still holding up fine

Really? Oh, there might be some hope after all!

I might ask you for a few pics of your setup if you don't mind: I have a few questions as well.

Did you have to use the rubber "sheet" that came with it to get the back sight to stay on the rail? I used it but wasn't convinced.

How are you setuped: zero at 50 yd? Would you mind taking a picture of your back sight? I was personnally running out of ramp to be able to raise the sights...

Finally, how do you align everything up when actually taking the shot: green-red-green all on a horizontal line? Are you covering the target with the red (front) dot or are you putting the target just above it (so that you can still see the target)?

Appreciate any help you may provide! PM me if you want to send me pics directly to my email, but I think future visitors to this thread might wanna see the pics too.

David,

are you sure your shotgun is shooting to point of aim?

The Pardner Pumps are known for a common problem ..... that they not necessarily shoot to point of aim. There are a couple of people here who have reported that problem .... and my Pardner Pump as well is shooting around 8 - 9 inches to the left at 30 meters.

Actually, I have no idea. That's a very good question. This was the first time I ever shot this shotgun! I did have a few (3) slugs that hit 6" off to the left. But then I was able to move the point of impact to 2" right of the bull's eye (but still low). When I attempted to move the sights to compensate for that, I had to undo the windage screw and the elevation screw and lost all my settings ;-(

How come the sights aren't like archery sights and have independant micro-adjustment screws. Would make adjustments a lot easier for the user.

This, I sent my 20GA for warranty work just before Xmas. Because I was shooting low/left with slugs. H&R replaced it as quick as they could get a new one. So the barrel must have been bent. I haven't got slugs to see if this one shoots low/left.

Honestly to make them micro adjustments, would make the sights much more bulky. I think they made them simple to keep the cost down and low profile.

I haven't gotten to the range with them. My gun went for warranty work for a crooked barrel, and then Covid hit and range got shut down. It re opened, and I just haven't bothered to go in and get 20GA slugs to zero. So I have no idea if the rubber sheet is needed. They are quite snugg on the barrel. I was thinking adding a dab of red locktite on the rib to keep them in place.

When I get to zero them. I'll line up the 3 sights in a row, and Im going to set it that I put the red fiber dot on the target. If they were rifle sights, I would put the blade tip on the target. Sounds like you may need to move the rear sight up the rib more.

I'll probably try and get out this week with it.

Please let me know how it goes! Very curious to see someone else get it working. It would be engouraging lol

If I was you, judging by how off you are.. I would contact gravel agency and deal with H&R warranty. Honestly I just emailed them, they said to fill out a forum, then I sent it back. They did everything and sent me a new one, once they got a replacement in ( They might have yours in stock, since 12ga is more common ) Because your going to struggle compensating for the bent barrel with more adjustments.

So what exactly is a bend barrel and how did you confirm that yours was bent?

As far as I know, I'm just a bad shot with my shotgun or my sights aren't setup correctly yet.

I guess I couldn't even confirm by removing the sights and just trying to shoot with the bead sights, as it's on the barrel itself.

When I shot the first gun, I was just using the bead sight. I thought it was me, till I put 4 slugs in the same area. Low/left. About 4-5".

Bent barrel is a barrel that is crooked and not straight. Well I looked down my rib, and seen that the barrel was veering to the left. I send it to H&R to look at, and they sent me a replacement gun. So means that barrel had to be bent. A buddy that bought the same shotgun from the same store, he even said his is veering to the left.

So something at the factory is wrong. Something is causing the barrels to warp.

So I have no idea if this one will shoot low/left. I should have tested it before installing the sights. But barrel seemed to be straighter than the first.

Shoot some slugs from a bench-rest at 30 meters and at 50 meters and just with your bead sight ... and at a bullseye on a larger cardboard or a suspended larger paper. While you do this try to keep your sighting picture consistent.

The slugs should be grouping somewhere on your target and those groups should give you an indication if your gun shoots to point of aim or if it shoots left or right .....

Here is an example of my Huglu SxS ... the right barrel shoots left and low .....
Now, this is around 6 inches low/left at 50 meters and to me that is acceptable.

However, my H&R Pardner Pump shot around 20 inches to the left at that distance .... and that is a lot.
