i have a as new winchester model 94 al in 307 winchester, can anybody help me out with a value? i can not find this model in any of my books.thanks glenn

In as new or exc condition you can probably get $550 for it here on the EE. Maybe a tad more if you have accs like dies, brass etc.

These were called the BIG Bore. Firts one was 375 cal then 307 and 356 then 444 rem. Is yours angle eject? Less than original vertical eject. I have a 356 shoots great similar to 358. Yours is close to 308 win a bit more than 300 savage. A good 200 yards and more deer/moose rifle. I never understood why they were not more popular.

.307 Win

Yeah, it's basically a rimmed .308 that you can load with flat nosed bullets (for safe feeding from the tube magazine). Apparently, you can use .308 Win dies to load .307 Win [need a different shell holder). The .307 was a good idea that just didn't catch on (like a lot of ctgs these days).... :(

Why didn't it catch on-I don't know-given by far the average deer is killed at well under 200 yards-probably less than half or one quarter or that-yet people somehow think they are undergunned with anything less than a magnum[now short magnum]I knew an old guy who only used an open sighted Winchester 25-35-and with great efficiency too.

Probably because at the average range that a lever gun like the Win 94 is used to take game the venerable .30 WCF [aka .30-30 Win] is just a good a cartridge in terms of it's effectiveness on game. Plus the fact, in a tube feed magazine, you still have to load with flat nosed bullets. That detracts somewhat from the efficiency of the cartridge in the spitzer bullet vs flat nosed bullet debate. The .307 was meant to give .308 Win ballistics in a lever rifle but would be somewhat handicapped in terms of bullet efficiency at given velocities with the flat nosed bullets.

And not to mention there were other lever rifles already available in the actual .308 Win (Savage 99 and Browning BLR) by the time the .307 came along for the Win 94 (tube feed) lever rifle.

The .307 Win on the Win 94 rifle, although a noble idea, has become somewhat of a novelty.

I wouldn't mind one someday "just because" not because I thought it would give me anything more than or even equal what my 1959 vintage Savage 99F .308 Win can deliver.

win 307

Hello,,,,just noticed your inquiry about the 307. I have one in 95% cond. which I have turned down $500.00 for. Nice caliber and when the Hornady Leverevolution bullet becomes available for hanloading it will be even better.
I'm keeping mine!!!!!

when i bought mine, like new with pacmyer decelerator pad, leup rings and base and 1 3/4x5 trophy scope i paid $600. might be a little high but i like the rifle. shoots a 150 gn rn at 2600 fps with 20 inch barrel. if your keeping it stock up on brass its sometimes hard to find. use 308 dies and a 30 30 shell holder.
