Finally after 4 years of deer hunting (what few long weekends, I could pull off in the fall)
I decided to get a bow and go earlier. Also after many years of advice on CGN, I also went deeper in the woods.

Not a huge buck, but a nice 3 pointer, weighing in at 152 lbs dressed.
Came in with about 20 minutes left in legal light. Drew the bow back... and well.. not sure if it was buck fever, the deer jumping or if my sights got knocked (haven't had a chance to shoot since) but my lung shot ended up being a femural artery shot, arrow passed right through both hips, tracked an amazing blood trail for about 75 yds or so.

Oh well, next one will be text book!

The rest of the story...

I live in PEI and hunt in NB, I had a friend watching the apples for me, I was set up about 25yds from an old unused wood road, looking over a trail. First morning a doe and fawn show up, on the road, not on my trail at all.... I look and realize there was way too much cover and if a buck ever came, I would have no way to see him.
Next morning I see nothing, that afternoon, I chopped a few trees with a very small hatchet. That evening this little fella, shows up, exactly where I had seen the doe and fawn. Thankfully I chopped those trees out!!! I had to wait for him to advance about 2 feet to pass by a large maple. And then I drew the bow...

Good for you, Bill C68 :)

I was out there calling moose all morning... notta. Got a few grouse on the walk back. But I was hoping to experience the same feeling you did but with a moosie.
Congrats!

Just for interest, what did you shoot the grouse with?

Congrats. Tough getting a deer when you're an Islander. I had to move to Alberta to knock down my first (despite many weekend attempts in the Maritimes and Maine).
