Hi,

I have a nice rifle equipped with a Bushnell engage 6-24.
Another rifle with a Bushnell AR308. Shoots well but I want to upgrade this one with a better scope.

I am looking either for a Diamondback tactical, or an Athlon Argos.

Question1 : what would be your pick? Heard good things about Athlon but I don’t know anyone who has one. Heard good things about Vortex and warranty, but also a lot of stories where people actually had to use the warranty a lot...

Question 2 : how do they compare with my Engage?

I am shooting paper at 100,200, and gong at 400 (I hate not seeing the holes in the paper so passed 200, I shoot steel. I would like to push my steel gong further away. 500-600... who knows after...

Thanks!

I have an Athlon Talos Tactical 4-14x44 and think its great. I want to sell my other scopes and replace them with Athlon.

I have a diamond back tactical not impressed at all

I’m quite impressed with mine.... on a Savage 22LR. I would hesitate to spend so little on a scope with all these features for use on a centerfire. If it craps out on a 22 no biggie. I would spend double ($1K+) for similar features for a hunting rifle. I destroyed a Diamondback on a 375 just from recoil into my shoulder.

Had crossfire 2, diamondback (both on 308 bolt and semi) and sparc AR from vortex, all great optics for the price. Never a problem.
Almost bought the diamondback tactical last year after much research, but had a deal on a Nikon I couldn't pass.

The diamondback tactical ffp is highly regarded versus price point.

Don't know Athlon, so can't comment on em.

Where do you shoot pass 200 around Sherbrooke? Lucky enough to have private land not surrounded with neighbors, hills and mountains?

After what I saw on the weekend I would pass on the Vortex diamond back, Have a couple of Athlons and i'm happy with them so far. The new model Bushnell I can't comment on haven't used one yet. The Vortex new out of the box was clear enough but after initial adjustment it went wonky, warranty time already. Oh ya it wasn't mine.

I have 2 vortex diamondback tactical ffp scopes. One 4 x 16 and the other is 6 x 24. I love both these scopes. Used for 2 different 308 rifles I have. My only complaint is the 6 x 24 at max power the eye relief is much less forgiving. They both hold zero to date. I must admit though I've been looking at the Athlon scopes to replace what I've been using on my 17hmr.

I have a Private place I can shoot quite far. From top of a hill to another one makes it around 450-475 yds. More than that I will need to shoot in the public road... :)
Only downside is it’s about 1,5 hour from home.

I figured it couldnt be that close. All our ranges are 200m and it's hard to find a place you won't be bothered (or bother everyone else ah ah).

My parents have 25 acres in Orford, and still can't do more than hunting since even a 22lr sounds like a canon with all the mountains surround... And all the ever so peaceful neighbors.

Have fun, and let us know what you end up with!
