So I just restored a Cooey 39 that was missing the bolt. I found a replacement on the EE but I cant get it to close. The bolt handle hits the receiver. Any idea of these things require fitting and how to do it? I'll post a pic later.

Even if you push hard ? The extractor has to jump the rim. Takes quite an effort on mine.

Fitting is done by filling the back of the bolt handle although the extractor has to jump the rim it shouldn't need excessive force to do this if it does check for crud build up behind the extractor.

Looks like I need to remove about 1/16". That seems like allot, no?

I'll strip the bolt and make sure the extractor groove is free of any debris before I start filing.

Looks as if it has been worked over previously. Hope the heat hasn't affected the braze that secures the handle to the body.

Fitted perfectly means you can feel it engage the action fairly firmly with an empty chamber... no slop, no forward movement left...

Some one likely had a worn receiver and blobbed some weld on to build it up. Only these will put up with is home gunsmithing, and keep on ticking.

Yep looks like it been “built up”, the last one I did , was a new bolt...and I need to remove about an 1/8 of an inch...or maybe a little more to make it work. Watch you don’t make the back of the bolt into a ramp...making the bolt easy to close , but also won’t lock down right, and will pop up on every shot! I’ve had to fix a couple , like that.
Cheers

I used a flat file. I fired about 20 rounds through it, no issue with the handle moving.
