Prvi 7mm-08 brass?

I'm wondering if anyone is has tried the Prvi brand 7mm-08 brass? Its the cheapest option I have found (88c each), which puts it slightly cheaper than winchester (94c each) and notably cheaper than Lapua or Norma (~$1.50 each).

Usually I just buy factory ammo, shoot that, and then use the brass to reload, but there isn't any particularly cheap 7mm-08 ammo that I've found, and almost all of it has been federal and I don't like their brass.

So, has anyone used the Prvi brass? Is it good? It it REALLY good? Or should I just suck it up and buy Norma or Lapua? If I went with Norma or Lapua, is one better than the other?
 
All brands will handle SAAMI spec no problem... it is when you go into the magnum+ pressures that some brands will show less life

Peterson is another very good brand and I have competed with all of these that I am discussing. WRT to accuracy, all work well. I have Peterson here.

If you going to go to "11", Lapua will help but accuracy may not be ideal regardless

Best accuracy is rarely at the very highest pressures and if I need more speed, I will run a larger case.

Thanks Jerry. Running a larger case isn't an option right now, just bought the rifle, haven't even laid my hands on it yet. But I'll need to get some stuff together to make some ammo, so I'm weighing my options...

Privi can be hit and miss in all sorts of ways, such varying rim/extraction groove diameters, weight/thickness of brass in the same lot. It's good enough for plinking.

IMHO, going for the lowest price on brass you are hoping to get good accuracy out of, is money poorly spent.

Go for the brands Gerry lists or just bite the bullet, buy a 100 count box of Lapua, that will last long enough to wear out the bore, as long as you take care of it properly

Up until now I've been using Winchester brass without issue (not in this caliber though, I'm brand new to 7mm-08). I don't necessarily need the best of the best, I'm a hunter not a Long Range enthusiast, but if the Lapua or Peterson or Norma are that much better than the alternatives maybe I will just bite the bullet, so to speak.

Prices for Starline look very appealing!

Any potential issues with running 308 brass in my 7mm-08? I have a small handful of that kicking around (I don't own any 308 rifles, got some free brass from a friend and I can't say no to free).

Size it down and off you go, you'll get more life out of the Lapua brass so winds up being cheaper in the long run with more loads before failure.

Or go with the 7/08 brass and still be ahead of the game.

Also, Lapua brass is more consistent and way less prep.

It will be mere pennies per load difference, you get one more firing out of better brass and it's paid for.

And this is one reason why I asked if 308 brass has any issues in a 7mm-08, the high end 308 brass is almost as cheap as the mid-grade 7mm08 headstamped stuff!
 
The quality/consistency of the neck is one of the reasons you go for Lapua brass in the first place. To neck it down when you don't have to, to save a few bucks isn't worth it imo.

Take my advice on this one. ;)

Best thing, the last batch I sized goes a bit short of trim length, haven't trimmed yet on multiple firings.

I have at least 10 reloads on my first batch of 50 Lapua 7-08, even with max reloads and they're still going strong. I religiously anneal the whole case after reloading five times (let the howling begin)

Folks are under the impression that the colors left by annealing on factory loaded ammunition is to make the case more maleable. NOT SO.

The case neck and shoulders are AIR COOLED, which actually makes them harder and makes for more as well as consistent neck tension.

I don't do the red coloration/dump in cold water thing. That's way to harsh and leads to a lot of negative issues with the brass.

I heat the cases up in the preheated oven to 500F for ten minutes, to normalize the brass close to new without burning off anything.

After ten minutes in the oven, have enough water in the sink to dump the hot brass into, so that it's completely covered. Turn the tap on and stir.


Suther, you won't have a problem sizing down 308 Win cases to 7mm.

The thing you need to take into account is that those loads will behave differently from the dedicated head stamped brass you purchase.

If you are looking to go down that route, which we did back in the day when the 7-08 was still a wildcat, don't bother to even purchase head stamped brass. Simply because you don't want to chance a mix up when your Moose presents a broadside shot.

Range brass is CHEAP.

Buy a bag of 500 308 win for about the same price as a single box of factory loaded ammo.

Sort by manufacturer, then sort by weight.

Prepare the lot of cases you want to use appropriately, start developing a load

Yup, there's not much if any difference, after sizing down,

However, you may find that that the lips on the case mouth are wavy and should be trimmed
 
Lots of info here since I posted but to Suther, what I meant was I’ve only had chance to load the prvi twice. It’s for my sons 7-08,and he grew so fast the youth rifle doesn’t even fit him properly anymore and seems to like my bigger 7mm s
When I bought it it was the only 7-08 brass around so I thought I’d give it a try. Works good no complaints. I’d say as good as any decent batch of win or rem brass. No it’s not Lapua quality,but you already knew that. ��
 
Once fired Norma 308, 100/$60, resize and away you go.
