Currently have an older Leupold vari x ii 3-9x40 with duplex reticle. Was thinking of putting that on my 22 and getting something with a bdc reticle or similar, and brighter in low light. Was hoping to spend less then $500. Any ideas on something that fits the bill? Are scorpion optics any good? They come with turrets for specific calibers and have a range, dial, shoot system that looks interesting.

Going from Leupold to scorpion would be like going from Ferrari to Chrysler.

Think I would categorize Leupold more as a Cadillac, not a Ferrari but I get the gist.;)I agree, forget the scorpion. My brother just paid $1200 for a scorpion with all the bells and whistles and all I could say was WHY???

Nikon has ceased making scopes...The Nikon Blacks are getting less expensive by the day. Last I checked the $1,000. Black 4 - 16 x 50mm was down less than $700. I have the 6 - 24 x 50mm Illuminated and IMHO it's a great scope...and yes, Nikon honor the warranty.

I can't help but wonder what'll happen if you have scope issues in 5 years. Sure, Nikon will honor the warranty, but for how long? And what will that look like? If 5 years from now, they have no replacements then can send you and they don't have the parts needed to fix it, what are they going to go? Give you credit towards another Nikon product?

At some point, I can't help but think you won't be getting a scope back regardless of their warranty policy. That would make me hesitant to spend too much money on one of their scopes, but I hear they have really good glass so I'd still be tempted in the OP's price range.

I do believe a few years back Nikon partnered up with Burris for a run of scopes under the Burris name but assembled in the Philippines by Nikon.
Not so great because although they had great glass thier first reticles were prone to come loose.
I don't believe these two companies work together anymore.
This was when we could send our broken Burris scopes to thier repair facility at Greeley Colorado.

You are re-inventing the wheel by changing up the scope with an unknown to you.
I would offer you a scope I have on a rifle for 200 less than your budget and you would not only be golden, but
well versed in how it operates as it is the same as what you are used to ..Leupold.
But, if your looking to change up for the sake of "Just because" ignore my comments about the value of knowing what you already own.
Doh !! you want bcd for under 500 shekels....

Move up the Leupold food chain. I still own several of the VXII and VXIII as they are great optics. The latest VX2s are also great scopes and the VX3s a bit nicer still. I can't comment on the current VX3I incarnation as I have never owned one.

Keep your eye on the Exchange Forum as there are always Leupolds in the list.
