First .22LR...Marlin or Henry Boy?

Because of this thread I now want a marlin as well.

I want both now as well. And the Henry with large loop lever and brass barrel band. Why would they put a black barrel band on the golden boy and a brass on the big boy gun?

Heck while I'm at it, might as well get a Weatherby VXII.

I want to get out there and and handle those levers before my PAL gets here, hopefully next week

The 39-A is deadly accurate with some good glass. I can get under a 1/2" at 25 for 5 with cheep bulk dept store ammo. My old '54 wears a 4-12X 40mm A/O, and I could care less what it looks like- it gets the job done. Sooner or later, iron sights become incredibly hard to use. Far sightedness is just a fringe benefit of advancing age. The 39-A will handle longs and shorts as well.

Personally, I would not buy a brand-new 39-A for a couple of reasons.... they are over-priced for one. 500 plus bucks for a .22 is a lotta scratch- even in these inflationary times. There's no reason to put a cross-bolt safety into a hammer gun that was just fine with it's safety step notch. I'd look for an older used one that doesn't have the cross block safety...

I don't think they are over priced. Expensive, yes, but not overpriced. The 39A is one of a handful of top quality .22RF that remain, of any action type.

You are right on about the cross-bolt safety though. IMO the only 'safety' a lever gun needs is 'half-####'. I was looking at a really nice Win1895 SRC in 30-06 the other day........... with a tang safety, not right I tell ya.

The other levers with exception of the BLR are just junk! They are like a tarrus or Rossi stub nose revolver against a Colt or Smith!

There is just not enough quality mixed with the plastic to make them worth buying!
