Hey fellas i was gifted a box of woodleigh the #65D which is a 180gr PPSN for the 300 win mag, it varies from the 65B? 180gr ppsn by Shape and a few thousands in length and may be rated for a higher impact , the only issue i have an want to ask is, what would be general proceedure when loading the 180gr that is longer, use a similiar COAL and stick it in the case more, or set it up just off the lands/in the box an be mindful of the charge an possible compression of powder ?

i dont think il load them full charge in terms of a high or full case, will start with a min load and use the rounds for "walking them up" bush stalking.

likely using Varget... in my Abolt.

thanks for any info

i did just find this online..
should i start below min...

From the Woodleigh Catalogue. The .300 win mag bullets have slightly better published BC's.
I agree not worth worrying about the difference but they look different in shape when placed next to each other.
308 Cal 308"
65B 180gr PP SN, SD= .271, BC = .376, Rec Velocity= 2000-2900
65C 220gr RN SN, SD= .331, BC= .367, Rec Velocity = 2000-2400
300 win mag .308"
65D 180gr PP SN , SD = .271, BC = .435, Rec Velocity = 2000-3000
65E 200gr PP SN, SD = .301 , BC = .450, Rec Velocity = 2000-2900
Notes on the 65D from Woodleigh
The #65B 308 Cal .308" 180gr PP SN and the #65D 300 Win Mag .308" 180gr PP SN are made from the same jacket. The difference is the ogive (or nose profile). The #65B 308 Cal is longer in ogive to suit 308 Win and 30/06. The #65D 300 Win Mag has a shorter ogive for 300 Win Mag and all 30 Magnums including 308 Norma. The #65D 300 Win Mag also has a smaller tip, is slower expanding and has a higher ballistic coefficient. The #65D 300 Win Mag generates more pressure than the #65B due to longer bearing surface.

What do you plan to load them in, a 308win?

I wouldn't worry about starting BELOW min. I would treat them the same as any other bullet you haven't used before, start low and work up.

nah i will load in a 30-06 sorry, yeah the increase in 'resistance/pressure' shouldnt over peak starting at a minimum 180gr load, you mean to say ? fair call :)

Ok jut to follow up- loaded and shot these 65D bullets, started with 44gr up to 46gr of Varget, i just Seated the projectile further in the case to the same COAL as the 150gr PPSN .308 i have loaded in 3006 cases. seemed all good. Groups were in the 1.5 range an a tad over, a real flyer in the top charge unknown, so backed down to the 45 and loaded enough to go huntin for a few months.

they seem fairly strong, i pulled some from the dirt, good mushroom but alot of shank left, for big deer, no problemo!
