Hi everyone,

I have just got myself a M91 Carcano and had a question about ammo.

The only stuff I can find in Canada is the PPU soft point (123 gr), but the concern I have is bullet diameter which is .264. I've been doing some research and I've been told that the standard Carcano bullet should be .267 or .268.

Has anyone used this ammo before? Any feedback on the performance?

Thanks

I had to email the guys from Tradeex after doing some digging on the PPU ammo, PPU apparently makes 6.5 Carcano with both bullet diameters.

This was the reply I got from Tradeex, ".268 just like the bullet we sell to reload them from PPU". Hope this helps?

My little Carcano carbine is in pretty rough shape, so maybe not the best example, however for what its worth.....PPU fmj ammo had had bad accuracy with a few bullets even tumbling. The SP ammo had much better accuracy, no signs of tumbling.

I bought some of the .268 ppu bullets from tradex . Haven't got around to trying them yet. They were quite reasonable priced. I am spending more time trying several 6.5 molds to find a good Carcano load. Its a good plan to slug the bore and see what the size is, they can be different. Actually have a little used 270 mold that may work the best in my Carcano, did buy the "cruise missile " lee mold that may work.

The Norma factory made stuff is pretty close, and there is some bespoke ammo producers down south that make flawless repro of the military ball ammo.

Do you reload? I went with cast bullets from Jet bullets for mine, they are easy to reload and work well. Can be bought in .268”

Would echo this, I bought jet bullets and asked for .268, all of them are on point in terms of size and weight. Haven’t gotten to shoot any as the ranges all closed up right before I loaded them but they were by far the cheapest and most reliable supply of carcano bullets o found

Damn I'm glad I opened this thread up that's some of the best factory Carcano ammo you can buy. Good hot tip brother thank you.

How is the brass on the Norma stuff? I’m down to my last 40 pieces of carcano brass and might as well buy some ammo and keep the brass.

Very good. I have about 100 or so cases laying around waiting to get refilled. Norma doesn't disappoint.

Perfect. $30 a box for carcano is the best deal I’ve seen in a long time. Probably get a few boxes of this

Check the post regarding the Carcano Calvery Carbine, current at this time.

I just detailed some of my adventures with feeding the Carcano, fingers don't want to retype the whole thing.

Good luck!

so finally got my 162 grain cast bullets on target without keyholing. target was only 20yards as I was putting them over the chrony at the same time and only had 5 shots of 162 which are the circled ones at the top. the other ones are about 135Gr, same mold, I just chopped off the bottom of the bullet to give them a try, two were off to the side. all shot standing, off hand.
