I was looking at the list of antiques on the Joesalter site. I was interested in one in particular. I emailed with some questions and was told that they dont send cartridge guns to canada any more...i need to order and then use a exporter. Anyone have any experience with this??

Yes. I've imported a few. Call Ellwood Epps and they will do it for you. They will have Joe Salter ship the gun to Leroy's in Montana and then Epps will take it from there. I've always done it myself without using Epps, but it's less work with Epps.
Yes and by the time you run around up down and all around the gun will be gone if it was anything half Decent.
I tryed to buy a gun a few months ago that was a decent price and got the Same responce.
Yet they come up here still buying up our Cartridge Handgun Antiques.
I think Joe was a OK guy to deal with its others running the Show now.
Collectors firearms of Texas will ship up here i bought about 4 guns off them.

I should have mentioned that one of the rifles I imported was bought from Joe Salter. I merely send them payment and tell them to ship it to Leroy's in Montana. No problem. They already have Leroy's FFC on file.
Another rifle I purchased from another seller in the US I didn't even mention I was from Canada. I merely told them to ship it to Leroy's. Most sellers won't care where the buyer lives just so long as they ship it to a FFL dealer in the US.
If it is an antique, I just tell them to ship it to a US address near the border and I clear it through customs myself. I spoke directly with BATF and the fellow told me that they do not regulate antique firearms. (i.e., you don't need to go through an FFL dealer and you don't need a US export permit.)

I am having a 38rf sent from Rob Robles but another site I went to the gent
there asked if I had an address in the US.to send it through.What is the deal
with Leroys in Montana? Do I contact them and give them my address,tell them about the deal and pay them to be the middle man? Or do I call Epps and tell them where the gun is and leave it up to them?

Get the serial # description pictures Etc. get the letter from the Canada fire arms center declaring that it is an antique Fax the letter to the dealer person etc that you're buying it from tell them to put this inside with the gun in an envelope marked for Canada customs tell them to declare it as antique British or American , French sporting goods . where ever it was made . you are not lieing that is what it is chances it will not even be opened if it is the letter is there for Canada customs. I have done this and never had a problem some have been opened but still arrive also suggest the sender gives them a fresh coat of oil before sending especially in the winter
