I had my new to me Mod 70 .308 to the range yesterday for the pre-deer season sighting in session. I have a Burris Fullfield Ballistic Plex 4.5-14x scope on it right now.

Nicest rifle I have ever shot, and I was putting all my shots at 50 yards into a tea cup size area at 50 yards at BRRC.

Hopefully I can get it even more accurate before I go out Nov 5th but at this point I am really pleased with the rifle, its beautiful classic lines and its silky smooth trigger.

I would recommend this rifle (classic featherweight) to anyone who loves a nice old school deer gun.

I have a couple of new to me model 70's in 257 Roberts and 257 Ackley Improved, both of these rifles are feather weights, early 80's manufacture. One is a laminate the other straight walnut. I too have yet to shoot anything but targets with mine, but come Nov the AI will be launching projectiles at mule deer in southern Alberta. FS

Good to hear you & your new M70 .308 got out out for a range session. What kind of loads are you trying? The Featherweight in .270 WSM you found for me :D finally got a scope mounted last night. Found some Talley LW mounts available locally, topped it with a Leupold VariX 3x9 Compact and it's going for a workout prior to the whitetail/muley general buck season Nov 1 :D

Just shooting the Winchester in the silver box from Bass Pro.

I am not set up for reloading and I hear it is best to sight and practice with what you plan to use in the field so I am being a good listener and doing what I am told!

The gun is so nice, I actually think I like shooting it more than my AR right now.....my stag trigger blows.

I just posted in the "General" Forum for anyone who knows what my Win 308 M70 Sporter Varmint is worth? Exc blueing, 99% checking on stock, two small finish scratches.

Not made anymore. Accurate as hell.

my stag trigger blows
Heh, heh...the trigger on my Stag 15 R2 is actually quite good :) The trigger on my M70 is clean and crisp...but has about a 20lb pull  I still have to set it to about 2.5lb - 3lb so it'll be like my other Featherweights. In your .308 you could try a couple different ammo brands and bullet weights to see what it likes best.

I've got A model 70 Classic Sporter B.O.S.S in 7mm mag. I have had four previous 7mm mags and this one is by far my favorite. I do find it's A little fussy with certain grain bullets. Hopefully the new Winchesters will be as good or better than the old ones.
