Back when I use to actively hunt blackies,I would often use an over/under or sxs 12 gauge. :shotgun: My favorite was a slug in one side and buckshot in the other. At close range the slug gets fired first followed up by a round of buckshot, very effective. If they are real close then buckshot first followed by a slug. And if that doesn't work............:runaway:..........

Ah! Black bear hunts!

Here is a picture of myself with my hunting buddy.. we were after black bear. The bear is pretty much dead center of the picture. If you look hard you can see him. It worked, but the meat was pretty cooked. I'm the guy on the left, taking the shot. Its important to make sure you hit the vitals.

I knocked my spring blackie over with a 1 oz slug out of my single shot baikal in 12 ga.

27 yds and total devestation. Poor ol thing piled up in the first 25 yds and drove a big stick up its nose when it landed. I'm not sure if it was the slug or the stick poking into his brain that killed him.:p

I kinda think it was the big hunk of lead you gobbed into him.:50cal:

Works like a charm. The magnum nuts will tell you you need big heavy bullets going really fast, but you can take blackies with a 1oz slug out to 30 or 40m. Past that, personally, I wouldn't want to try it. They sure as hell drop when you whack em at close range though.
