Hi folks,

Got a question rattling around in my brain.

I am looking to get a 110 elite precision from savage, and I am wondering what cartridge to get it in.

The spot where I shoot is 1km long, and I am looking to reach that far.

I hunt with a 300 Win Mag, so my first thought is why not that cartridge?

But I’ve also got several hundred of rounds of 223 and 308 currently not being used, so would I be better to get it in one of those?

Or do I just on the 6.5 CREEDMOOR! Bandwagon?

Thanks folks!

Both the 223 and 308 are bulk packs for passing though an ar15, and AR10/m305

Pmc bronze/barnaul/federal bulk

Not great match quality stuff but always 2-3 moa in the rifles I put it through, which were precision machines either

I'd suggest the 6.5 Creedmoor. Great performance at the ranges you have access to, low recoil, lots of good factory ammo availability. Your bulk .223/.308 ammo won't be particularly well suited to either precision or long range shooting. You could get the 300 WM if you already have dies for your hunting rifle and it will have plenty of performance but will also be more expensive to feed than the 6.5, have more recoil and about 1/2 the barrel life.

as someone that went from precions 300wm to 6.5cm... go with the 6.5

match 6.5 is half the cost of match 300wm. Plinking 6.5 is cheaper still than "plinking" 300wm.

It is absolutely possible to shoot a .223 to 1000 - I just witnessed it on a long range course shooting 62 gr American Eagle. That being said, it is not an ideal cartridge for really getting out there at distance. .308 can do it too, and has been for a long time - but you will be better served by going to 6.5 Creedmoor... less recoil, flatter shooting than a .308, and a tremendous amount of both factory ammunition and components available if you want to reload.

ok, so if im looking for "cheap" 6.5 creed since this will be my first foray into long distance, what do you think of Sellier & Bellot 6.5 Creedmoor 140Gr FMJ Ammunition Case Of 200?

I've heard of guys getting good accuracy with that. Another "cheap" 6.5 Creed ammo is Hornady American Gunner. Your best bet though would be to buy a box of a couple different brands and see which ones shoot best in your particular rifle before buying a case.

Definitely something to do to get the best factory, but if I’m completely honest I’ve got a lot of work to do before I can honestly complain about ammo x being no good in my rifle at y yards, etc.

Never really reached out further than 200 so it’s a big step up for me.

I've got 1 moa out of the sb stuff. Used half box to zero and dial my rig before switching to the hornady 147g stuff which shoots sub moa. POI wasn't much changed on the switch but my rifle has a pretty fast 1:7 twist so it likes the heavier pills.

You will need to taste test ammo to see what shoots the best. I wouldn't order bulk ammo until I found what it likes.

6.5 Creedmoor can be found around a dollar a shot.
