Mk 1 Singer rearsight - adjusting screw issue

I never noticed that on mine but I just checked and low and behold mine also moves about a millimeter. I’ve never noticed it affecting anything or shifting POA. In fact mine has some spring too it. Meaning when I push on the screw the sight moves but when I relieve the pressure it springs back. I’m guessing this is normal play in the design

Interesting, I am hoping that this is normal because looking at assembly diagrams I cannot see what would have to break or wear out to cause this.

I am thinking the ball provides tension to keep the spring tight, but can develop some play. Mine isn’t bad at all, and resets backs to its original position

Mine is not doing what yours is. If I turn the screw to move the slide up the screw will pull itself down for a few turns of the screw before the slide moves, and the reverse happens when I turn the screw to move the slider down.
