For some of the boys who own Walther PP pistols chambered in 9x18 ultra calibre; can .380 ACP be fired safely in a 9x18 PP pistol??? I've seen it mentioned on the CGN forum a few times and am wondering if it is true????

Any info would be appreciated.

Thanks

.380ACP = 9x17 mm. Being only 1 mm shorter than 9x18 Ultra, it will probably work. However, in addition to being shorter, .380 is also a less powerful cartridge and might not have enough oomph to cycle the slide completely.

First, 9 x 18 Makarov has a larger bullet. .361 compared to .356.
Even if it will chamber, it is very dangerous to fire.

.380 in an ultra should work. However it is 9x17 rather than 9x18. It is supposed to chamber on the case shoulder but being shorter I have read that the case actually gets held by the extractor.
I would not shoot it but others do.

Thanks for info guys

So I guess .380acp can be shot but I will be taking some risks doing so. Too bad a fellow can't use the .380 as it should be easier to find that the 9x18ultra round. I should mention that the PP pistol is fun to shoot. A friend of mine who has a PPK in 7.65 said that it shot rather well.

So I guess a fellow will have to get some more 9x18 Ultra ammo somewhere??

Thanks all for the info:)
