Well I've read alot on here about the accuracy of the 10/22 being poor without alot of aftermarket work.

So how bad is it really? What can I expect with a scope at 50yds from a stock rifle. I'm thinking stainless. Not the target version.

At 50yards in a indoor range(the old Firing Line-1991) I could do ten shots in ten seconds into dots that measured 3/4" in diameter. This was one shot per dot shooting from a rest at the bench using a 3x9x56 scope. Factory 22lr with a weaver base for the scope. Guess I got a good one way back when;)

As with most .22's , try different brands of ammo.
You will be surprised at the difference in accuracy. Hopefully you will find one that your gun likes .

It also depends on the model. My K10/22T target model puts 5 in one hole at 25 yards. That's with match ammo and a bench. Shooting off hand I can hit the equivalent of a gopher head at 50 yards as long as I do my part. Depends on the individual rifle, the ammo and the model.

1.5-3" with mine, depending on ammo It took about $500 worth of parts to get it to function as reliably and accurately as my $250 Savage MkII bolt action

If you're like me... it's good enough with a scope to make you feel pretty good about your performance... good enough to show the girlfriend who doesn't know any better anyway.

I'd like to reduce the trigger pull on mine but I don't think I'll be doing all the other stuff, barrels, bedding etc., etc.

For all I'd ever do with it... my 10/22 carbine is accurate enough.

A lighter crisper trigger is really nice and does plenty to improve accuracy. I run two stock 10/22's and have no issues hammering shotgun shells at fifty yards all day. Gophers at over 100 are really no issue. Lots of practice and a consistent diet of the same ammo. The rifle will out shoot most owners. Some on this board mistake poor marksmanship for poor craftsmanship.

Someone who "can't hit anything" at 50 yards with a factory stock 10/22 using a scope and cheap ammo must be a terrible shot...because I've only been shooting since January, and I can easily hit the bullseye at 50 yards with my 10/22RR and Leapers 3-9x32 scope. With the mil-dot reticle, I have it down so that I can hit a clay at 200 yards within three shots or so (barring serious wind of course)...and that's pretty much a rookie shooting.

I find that 100 yards is really when the groups start spreading out a lot, and when "target" versions of this rifle start to pay off big time.

There is absolutely NOTHING wrong with a typical stock 10/22 at reasonable 22 ranges. The bonus is the option of additional after market accessories.

10 shots into a toonie-sized hole at 50 yards, with Dynapoints. The factory-stainless standard barrel is remarkably accurate, its the trigger, bedding, factory scope mount and barrel band that sucks.

You don't need to pour thousands into a 1022 to make it shoot well (but its fun!) Change the hammer out for a Volq model, bed the action, float the barrel and lose the barrel band and your groups will shrink by 2x.

Gophers @ 50 should be OK.

As in the gophers should be OK because you will never hit them, or the gun will be OK for shooting at that distance.

You should be able to hit the gophers unless you are blind in one eye and can't see out the other.

Ok I understand you now, I was just feeling out whether or not you were being sarcastic for or against the gun. No prob.

Oh and I should do really well as I can see fine out of both eyes :D:D:D
