Is This A Crow Or A Raven? "graphic"

So as I was out this morning doing some grouse hunting, I walk down my usual path then it goes off into the bush where I continue my hunt. As I was walking I stumbled across the remains of which I don't know if it is a crow or raven.

Just two day's ago I was walking past this very spot. So eather racoons,hawk? or someone shot it.

Anyway's I took a couple pictures, one of the wings and one of the tail.

It actually looks larger in real life.

My guess is a raven?
"sorry not all that knowledgable with crows/ravens" accept I know a raven is much larger then a crow. Although I have seen some pretty large crows around here.

I have seen these guy's flying around. They make a sound that almost sounds like a turkey at times, then a low grunt call they do as well.

Anyway's, enough ranting. Here are the pix

Yeah I would have to say Raven as well... Also that beak is longer then crows.

Ive seen some big crows but not with feathers that big...
 
A raven's vocabulary is remarkable compared to a crow's. Often a dead corvid is the result of West Nile virus.

I never even noticed the beak when I took the picture, and after I took the picture until "now" :eek:

Your right, that beak does look much larger then a crows don't it?

I bet it was someone that shot it. I hear shots going off lots back in a ways behind my place. At least for the sake of health, I hope that is what happened.

I know there are a few retard hunters "young punks" around here that would shoot at anything :rolleyes:

I will keep my ears open and ask questions. It's not hard to find something out where I live seeing that there is only a 250 population in my small village ;)

Are Ravens as evil as crows? I mean, I know a crow is responseable for 100's of baby ducklings deaths, songbirds etc etc.. But what about a Raven? or are they peaceful birds?

Here's one I shot. Look at the beaks and tails to compare.

Ravens IMO are worse than crows as they can take larger birds and animals (including lambs). I shoot them whenever opportunity and location permits.
 
The Ravens and Magpies used to sit in the up in the trees, taunt then dive bomb my cat.

We had a system worked out for Magpies. He would sit under the tree driving them crazy. I would shoot them with the pellet gun and he would catch them as they fell and eat them. He was smart enough that when he saw the gun come out he would go into that funny pounce position and wait!
 
Is that a provincial regulation, or where does it fall under?

I have looked a few places to no avail for any more info on this.

I was told many moons ago that seagulls and ravens were under protection as "The Queen's Birds". I never really thought about it again until now.

Looks like a raven to me, but the remains look like the crows I shoot with the .243
 
It is also my understanding that Ravens are a protected bird. Which is why I took the pictures in the first place!.

Unless someone can show me otherwise "for Ontario that is"

Thanks for confirming my suspicions. I wasn't 100% sure but pretty sure.

Beaks

Don't see many crows around here; thousands of ravens though. They are always the first indication that someone has a moose down and gutted. They swarm like flies at times. I seem to remember crows having yellow beaks. If that's true that would pretty much clinch the identification because this one has a balck beak like a raven.

Actually, I just looked it up and it's blackbirds with the yellow beak. Crows are black beaked as well. No help there. But it sure looks like the ravens around here.

Ravens also have the feather sheath that goes up and over the top of the beak, and slopes upwards and forwards. Crow beak feathers just poke out from the face. They also are much much larger. Definitely looks like a raven. For my part I quite like ravens. They tend to avoid us in our area as they haven't become used to scavenging garbage (yet) and are amazingly smart. I've heard of a person having one as a pet for several years. Apparently it made a pretty good one too.
 
yep i think there protected to! thats my understanding seagulls are the same thing.

I dont know anyone who shoots Ravens or has ever shot one.
well till now of course.
 
I don't understand why sh1thawks (seagulls) are protected???,:confused:
there is 675 bazillion of them flying around crapping digested garbage on vehicles.:eek:
The garbage dump is swarming with them,I wonder if there is a health issue with these lice ridden flying rats??
