Looking for suggestions for an O/U

Hey all,

I'm looking for a new Upland gun for the fall. I have been doing some looking around and haven't found much that fits the bill in an O/U. Ideally, I'm looking for a 26" or 28" barrel, single trigger, and Tang safety. I'm particularly interested in a 20ga, but the right gun in a 12ga wouldn't be bad either. I'm looking to get a slightly nicer gun that I will hold onto for longer, but still don't want to break the bank. So far the only thing I have found that I really like is the Mossberg Silver Reserve II, but they only sell the 20ga with extractors, not ejectors which I would like. You can get one in a 20ga with ejectors, but it's a youth model, and my monkey arms won't stand for that. So far I'm looking at that gun in a 12ga.

I'm hoping that one of you fine folks may be able to make some suggestions for alternative make/model. Any direction or helpful suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Check out some of the turkish-made guns, such as the Akkar Churchhill 206 or 800. Tristar also has some entry over unders. I have shot at least 2000 rounds out of my tristar and have had no issues.
 
Watch the EE for a used browning or Beretta 686. In the meantime, try to handle one of each and see what fits you best. Shoot them if you can. A used B gun is better value and a better investment long term even if you have to spend a few 100 extra. Buy once and cry once...
 
I picked up a beauty of a Browning Citori 20 XS Skeet for $2000....the chokes from my SX3 are identical so I can use them to use the gun for upland hunting. I love the 20 so much the only 12's I now own are one home defender pump gun and my two trap guns. I have zero interest in hunting with a 12 again.
 
I would looking for a good used Browning or Beretta, depending which fits you better. If you want to buy new , I would look at CZ/Huglu, as they offer decent quality, for a good price.
 
Look for a 1950's or early 60's Browning Superposed in 20 gauge with solid rib. You won't find a better handling O/U for hunting till you get over $10K. There is a good reason Superposed are valued by some.

Completely agree. I have a 1951-vintage 20 ga. Superposed and it is the perfect field gun.
 
It will be for hunting. I decided on the Akkar Churchill 820 Silver. Good mid point gun with all the features I wanted, except for an engraved reciever. 20ga OU with single trigger, selector Tang safety, auto ejectors, fiber optic sight, full set of chokes. Very happy. Thanks guys
