Japanese Milsurp Thread

Damn, I don't even want to post mine anymore lol. I'll still do it when the parts get here. Those are some gorgeous examples.

Check mine out guys, just drove a few towns east to pick this up from a collector's widow. An all matching, down to the firing pin Arisaka Type 99!
She's from the Nagoya Arsenal, Series 1 "イ" series marked so she's made between 1939-1940, as early war as it gets!
Love how the condition she's in too, nothing altered, the previous collector took great care of her and I'll be always grateful!

I am a really happy man with my first purchase!

Holy smokes, okay THAT is the best one I have ever seen! Don't think I seen such example here or on gunbroker before man.
Dust cover also matches I assume? She'a a beaut, you one lucky guy.

Hi Doomguy, yes original and matching too, I must've saved many souls in my previous life haha.
Only thing not matching is the blued bayonet I bought with the rifle. But it's also an early war bayonet so yeah why not.
Sorry about the upside down photo of the second pic not sure how to fix it.

That is hands down the nicest arisaka I have ever seen

Great find

Thank you Matt! And thanks again for the tip on EE again.
Missed it because I didn't even apply for EE when you mentioned it back then.
But kinda worked out because I got this one from a co-worker's father.
Have a nice one Matt, you rock!

Is that your first milsurp rifle? If so you couldn’t have found a better rifle. Fairly rare in Canada and almost non-existent in that condition. Excellent find. I’ve always wanted a Japanese milsurp. Trying to collect a main battle rifle from all of the main WW2 nations. Have a german, English, Canadian, Italian, and russian right now. Looking for an MAS36, Springfield or garand, and an Arisaka

Hey Matt yes my first ever, thanks again! If anyone got a 0 series in this condition I’d be impressed!
That’s so awesome what you own. I’m only into Axis firearms at the moment, but Japanese is my favourite.
Want a nice Kar98k next, hopefully a fine sample too. Good luck with your hunt!

LOL! That describes my collection almost exactly, and like you I am on the hunt for the same 3, except I would not say no to a post-WW1 refurb Berthier.

Surprisingly a nice Italian rifle was my hardest one to come by. They are fairly rare and hard to find in good condition. Finally got a 1899 91/28 TS carbine and it is probably my favourite rifle I own. Next up is probably a MAS36

I happened across a respectable M91/41 several years ago. Fine bore. Pleasant rifle to shoot.
Many years ago, there was a batch of short rifles with the grenade launcher attached to the rifle's right side. It used a Carcano action, and the bolt from the rifle. I don't know if they were new, or refurbished to as new, but they were in remarkable condition.

I shot my Carcano with cast reloads for the first time on Friday. Was expecting a heavy kick from a center fire milsurp. Almost no recoil and fairly accurate. Really pleasant to shoot. Was expecting a mosin m38 kick. The carcano rifles get a bad rap for no apparent reason. They are fine rifles.

I don't know why Carcanos are so disrespected either. There was a time that it made them very affordable. Those days are gone now.

PO Ackley did extensive tests on the Carcano military actions. His results show that they are very close to the same as the 98 Mauser as far as strength goes.

I have a military Carcano carbine in my collection, chambered for 7.92x57, built by Steyr as a last ditch weapon. Kicks like a MULE but even with loads of 47,000 psi, which duplicate German WWII loads, there is no sign of set back or stretching.

PO Ackley determined that the somewhat anemic load issued by the Italians was a choice that had nothing to do with the capabilities of the action.

I load my Type I, chambered in 6.5x50 Japanese to the same pressures as the Japanese military fodder. Not even a hint of issues.

I believe both the Japanese and the Italians purposely kept their ammunition loaded well below its potential purposely to keep it popular and reliably accurate for their relatively small stature troops.

Would make sense! I gripped my carcano carbine quite tight to the shoulder expecting a mule kick and it barely kicked at all. Was an absolute pleasure to shoot. While my other milsurps are fun to shoot they make you a little sore after a whole. Not a problem with my carcano. Mind you I was shooting cast loads so quite weak relative to military load, but still a please to shoot. Least kick I’ve experienced in a center fire rifle. Next up will hopefully be an MAS36, they just look cool to me

I think because italy surrendered so early people assume their equipment and tactics must have been garbage

@tiriaq man that sweet! As crude as it gets.

@jubbei. Nice to see another high condition all matching t99 here. There are not many. I’m responsible for 3 being in Canada. Haha
