C1A1 stock question

Just picked up a C1A1 stock for my Aussie L1A1. It's unfinished what do I coat it in, I was told linseed old with a rag, is this correct?

Yep, but use boiled linseed oil. Plain LO doesn't dry well. You are aware that there are/were 4 lengths of butt stock aren't you? Short, normal, long and extra long. There's a letter stamped on the bottom.

Many years ago, when I put new wood on my Aussie L1A1 I used Tung oil, it came up beautifully.

C1A1 stock

Yrs ago I recall plain linseed being issued to the troops to re-condition the FN stocks.This was done fairly regularly,especially on returning from the field.My own preference for military stocks is pure tung oil.Apply,allow to penetrate,and then wipe off the surface before it dries.Make sure to dispose of the oily rags correctly as there is a risk of spontaneous combustion with linseed or tung oil.

Thanks Glen good thing I asked here, or I would have picked up the unboiled type anyhoo I have no idea where our Troy buis are. But it's only been a week since he said he mailed them.
