Hi, I'm wondering if someone might have experience reloading specifically for a Remington model 7 FS 308 from the late 80's.# I will be using varget but I have other powders just in case.# #I'm curious to find out what works and what results came out of it.##

I starting with once fired Remington brass (later on: Nosler and Winchester brass).

Fed 210

Nosler Ballistic tip 165 Gr.# (i also have some 168 gr BT and 165 gr. partition).

Thank you,

Each rifle is different. Nothing special about a Rem 7 that relates to laoding.

Varget is an excellent choice, as is the Fed 210.

Make 5 of each, starting at the Start load and work up to the book Max, in 0.5 increments.

Load the bullets as long as the magazine allows, so long as they don't engage the rifling.

Shoot at 100 or 200 and see what load looks best, and then test around that load.

Okanagan mountains so half and half, open country and Brush, most shots have been under 200 yards. Only reason I got this lighter rifle is because my shoulder is frozen, makes things easier. most of Riifles have been mountain rem 700 and actually quiet accurate after a quick trip to the gunsmith lol

Went and shot various loads of varget and ballistic tips. DIDN'T NOT like one of the two, all over the map.
On the other hand my rem 700 rebarrlled with a shorter heavier barrel did alright, some one inch group. Will tune later on.

Might jump to speers 150 grains for the model 7
What a sh@#$t show lol

best load for a couple of mine with shorter barrels a ruger scout and tikka batue in 308 is rel 15, cci 250 and a 150 swift sciroccos. shoots sub minute in the tikka and almost as good in the ruger.

I know this is old school, when it comes to powder selection but my choice for the 308Win when being used with rifles with SHORT bbls, with all bullet weights.

It's a tad slower than Varget, depending on lots and it needs magnum primers for consistent ignition.

I have a Model 7 chambered for the venerable 308 Win. It has the slender, short barrel and is very fussy about consistency.

Barrel harmonics are important and heavier barrels help to alleviate the issues, but slender barrels seem to make it worse.

I don't know why, but for my Mod 7, W748 will give very good accuracy.

The same load I use for my rifle is used by a friend with a Browning BLR, with a short, slender bbl. He was using Varget, with the same weight powder charge. His velocities were slightly faster on average by about 50fps. The thing is, the best groups he could get from the BLR at 100yds was about 2.5 inches.

W748 has cut his groups to about half.

Barrel harmonics??? Maybe/likely.

The only reason I got varget is I bought on Alberta outdoor men a tikka build with a benchmark 26 inch barrel in 6.5x7 (shot well). I thought I give bought my 308 a go with it. I also have 4350, 4064 and will get more
