The SVT 40 Tokarev ***updated april 12th***

Great information. I tried to search this thread for information on what type of finish the SVT 40s had when they originally left the factory, but either the search doesn't work or there were no posts with my search criteria. In either case, does anyone know what type of finish the SVT 40s originally had?

Shellac as the Mosin have.

Hey there!

I was wondering if any of you guys have a source for the gas adjustment tool. I do not mind a repro for the moment as the original one is nearly impossible to find and when it pop up, it's friggin expensive.

My gas adjustement is perfect right now but i would like to have the tool in case i would like to do tinkering with the gun.

PS, it looks as though P&S only has one for sale and it is listed as having a broken gas system (incapable of semi-automatic operation) and a broken stock... and they want $400 for it plus shipping. The only other place I can find is the website lever action and theirs are listed for $375... which is still hard to justify when they were going for as cheap as $270 at wholesalesports and elwood epps just a year or two ago. If anyone has information otherwise please let me know as a SVT-40 would make a great addition to my Russian collection alongside the Mosin Nagant and the SKS.
Thanks,
-Burnmouf

Unfortunately, prices from the past don't mean much, not even a year ago with what all has been going on. If the supply starts to dry up, the price goes up. Plus our dollar has tanked. That being said, someone in the milsurp forum just said their Canadian Tire has them for $299.00. Didn't say where.

You lucky SOB! I passed up the opportunity to get one when they were $280 and got an SKS instead.. Kicking myself because the SKS only appreciated a bit and they're still pretty commonly available, but SVT-40's are almost impossible to find in-stores now. I ended up getting a really nice one off the EE last month for $400 though, and was happy with it :) Still don't have the gas adjustment tool though, but it shot the surplus I have totally fine no jams or anything so I don't even know if I need it. Surprisingly, the surplus 54r I have makes my Mosin experience rim-lock pretty frequently... and yes, I know the proper technique of loading strippers! Overall I really like my SVT, but have only got to shoot it on two occasions since I got it, and it's not very fun to clean lol. First time putting that massive spring back in place was difficult AF but now I can do it with minimal difficulty. For me, the recoil felt similar to my SKS, I was kind of expecting more out of it cause of the 54r but I guess the 6port muzzle break does it's job well!

SVT-40 prices have gone up and down over the past while. When I bought mine (5 years ago) I paid 450$ and that was a fair price. Before that it was 600-800$ a rifle. A couple years ago the price went as low as 200$ a rifle. Now they are going back up again. Until they permanently stop coming into the country the prices will fluctuate up and down.

Still available at Lever Arms for $375 plus shipping and an extra charge for hand select. $325-350 for private sale off EE, prices from $275-$500 negotiable at shows.

AVT stock, marine sling, 4 port or 6 port?? Purple or silver bolt? Good bore or shot out veteran?? Stainless cup upgrade, tool or sling included??

Legitimate sniper notched, '44-'45 production and Podolsk arsenal however, name your price right now....someone will grab it.

Good gun, fun to shoot, cheap ammo, high demand in US market, 'been there, done that' history. Are there more waiting to come over when the dollar recovers and flood the market??? Possibly...

You decide what an SVT 40 is worth to you right now and speak with your wallet.

I just bought one from lever arms. Hand picked 1942 matching stock and receiver. I am happy with my purchase.

How much did you pay for the hand picked? I cant seem to find the option on the website...

Id love to buy an svt40, don't know if my wallet can take the blow though haha

Their add is you get what you get rather rude for a company.Stock repairs too bad etc...I don't deal with them at all any more.....Harold

That is pretty cool. Is a 'german captured' svt-40 a thing? is there any way of telling? I would love to pick one of those up with a german ww2 manual. Are those still floating around?

I can see now why SVT40's are so cheap in Canada, it's not because of quality or accuracy. People buy them thinking they're awesome only to be like wtf the first time they have to clean them and list them for sale right away. These things are bloody difficult to take down, I mean putting the dust cover back on the bolt while reassembling? What the hell is that all about, my thumb is sore 2 days later from holding that spring. I can see why they went to the SKS, far simpler platform. I outright refuse to put corrosive ammo down this thing simply because I dread having to take down that gas system and bolt carrier.

Don't get me wrong, it's a badass rifle when you're firing it, just don't start cleaning it at 10pm or you're going to be a sad panda come 5:30am when the alarm clock goes off (last night sucked).

As i too found this difficult i found a novel solution to this:
Lock the bolt back, remove the handguard and take the piston rod extension out and remove the gas cup, drop the bolt and slide the dust cover forward, take the gas cup and place it inbetween the back of the recoil spring guide rod and the back of the reciever... The gas cup is practically the same size(and shape) as a round and will hold the spring in position to simply take the dust cover off, then i usually just remove the cup and rack the bolt all the way to the back and turn it to remove it. Simple and youve already done half of your gas system tear down.

I wanted to buy this before it skyrocketed in price. Sucks that it's now 1k+ I remember when it was like 300$ and I really wanted it, but missed it for no good reason!
