So installing +1 extentions on a couple units here. One is an 870 wingmaster with an 18.5 reminton bbl, other an 1100. The 870 has no detent on the bbl, and the 1100 has none on the new forend. what is everyone doing to keep them from loosening, yet still remain feild serviceable? I found a waffle/spring washer in some parts I bought recently that I'm gonna try. I cant seem to find any extras this side of the border to try on both.

I don't think I ever ran anything on my Rem 1100 when I had an extension on it.

And maybe my 1100 wont loosen up like my 870 is doing. Was having a jamomatic session with the 870 on the weekend until I realized the barrel got loose. Well I'm hoping that's what was going on, only had half a box left after tightening to run through it.

The 870 barrel ring can be drilled and the proper detent installed to retain the mag extension as was originally done to retain the mag cap on. The 870P still has this original detent set up.

Yup, drill and install a spring and detent. A small ball bearing held in with a staking has always worked for me. Casey is there a more correct way?

The Remington detent is a small "plunger" with ball on top and shoulder to retain it. The barrel ring is drilled, spring inserted and it is staked in place with a special tool that Brownells sells.
We have installed many of them when we put magazine extensions on customer's express guns.

You can get sling plates that have a ball bearing on them and they have worked for me. Wave washers definitely work too. I would also put some blue loctite on the threads, just enough to add a bit of friction.
